if so why?
I had a nice extended drive in a G87 (I have an F87 21 comp manual) and it is fast. It is techy and some materials are more upscale.

It was a 100% NO for me. Too much like a "video game that can kill you" than a fun, spirited, and truly BMW automobile. There are plenty of people who will lust after the G87. I would guess most of them are either buying their first "M" car, or they aren't coming from an F87.

given all the cars you've had in the past, that's a pretty useful take for those of thus that value the driver's car feel that bmws of the past always had.

to me my M2 comp had that feel, really enjoyed that car

currently debating whether to go back to it in DCT form or be a practical wuss and get a g42 m240iXdrive

the latter makes way more sense, but sometimes making sense is boring

If you are giving up your GTS4.0 then you'd want an M2C again. Dont make the mistake!

Everyone has an opinion. At the end of the day, there's only ONE opinion that matters: yours. You're not purchasing a BMW (or any vehicle) for me. If you were, I'd spec it out for you!!! LOL.

You seem to understand the visceral emotion of a vehicle that is terrific to drive. If that's the case, then the most important thing you can do is to drive whatever it is you're interested in. Sure, a dealer might not want to allow longer term test drives, but if you're a BMWCCA member, you can likely find someone that has the car you're interested in.

Whatever you do, make sure it checks the "fun" boxes for you. And, you'd be surprised about some cars that don't necessarily look like they'd be fun, but really are... Good luck!
