As for it being a real M engine, the purists will complain more than me about the non-S designation, but for similar money, I would take the S55.
Would you take the S55 because of the Power? Because for ME, sound is SOOO important and as we all know the S55 sounds like my A$$ after having burritos.

I have had several S54's S50B30s, S85, N54 and N55's.

For me around 300hp is enough (don't drive like a maniac) but sound is very important. The S85 V10 is the best sounding car I have ever had but the N55 (M2, not the 135i with N55 that I also had) is close so second place with the S54 and I always change exhaust on my cars but with the M2 I feel that It sounds good stock.

Stock power is one reason, yes. I don't like to mod, as it is risky here in Germany, and we only keep one car at a time, so reliability is important. Most of my driving is also on mountain or country lanes where you never need more power than even my G31 has.

As for the rest, I answered that. I think the Comp is a better overall package given that the prices are so close on the used market over here. Looks go to the OG.

It is not the same, some aspects better some not so much.

Look up all the improvements and then look up crank hub...you decide.

If reliability is important to you = N55
If you don’t need more power = N55

I am not saying that the Comp is a bad car but the only thing I like about it is the look of the seats and the mirrors.

I have since attributed that to ANY German high power performance orientated engine, and pretty much all Italian engines (motorcycles includes) LOL life has been a lot less surprising with this approach.

Funny thing is I've had every kind of German high powered sports car and never a serious issue.

Guess I haven't owned them long enough...lol

Reliability is important, so I am going to go with the engine that offers me the most out of the box. That it is an actual S engine is just a bonus to me, as are the rest of the improved components around that lovely S engine.
