HUH??? Really??
It's a marvellous feature.
I wholeheartedly agree with you in regards to the lost of Comfort Access. I traded up to a different Mini S simply for one with CA.

However, kudos to BMW M for at least not going all CS-out and removing the standard door handles, PDC and Harman Kardon stereo also. I'm thankful for small mercies.

The more I think about it, if I was to get a CS, it wouldn't be my daily driver or used much in the winter, so occasionally fumbling for the key fob is not that detrimental if it's not your workhorse.

I understand you're from Australia but there is a company here in NJ that sells a retrofit kit for Comfort Access system.

I've heard good things but it's sort of aftermarket-like, since it doesn't communicate with the vehicle's FEM/CAS (anti-theft) modules like a factory system would.

So I'm still vetting it for security flaws, especially on a limited vehicle like this that would fetch a lot more on the black market.

I don’t think they’re a no cost option. Just not sure how much they will cost over the black 763Ms.

Both are on the M Performance part site. Looks like around +$900 for the gold wheels.

About the 763M wheels of the M2 CS:
  • these wheels do not feature the "M Perfomance" stamp (unlike the 763M wheels made available as M Performance Parts)
  • standard (included in the M2 CS base price): choice:
    • jet black 763M + Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires;
    • jet black 763M + 'regular' Michelin tires (likely PSS);
  • optional (small extra price): choice:
    • gold matt 763M + Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires;
    • gold matt 763M + 'regular' Michelin tires (likely PSS).
Customers choosing M-CCB + gold wheels may be eligible for a 'limited edition' trunk badge ?

They work on black for 80s look and blue for 90s look. Anyone who gets them with silver wants to be Liberace. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

No biggie for a competent paint shop: order black 763M and get them treated in BMW finish 'Ferric Grey B55' (much lighter than Orbit Grey - Orbit Grey is dark grey, 'gunmetal' in the sun). For more pictures as example: see here.

Compare with black 763M on an M2C:

The 1M is special in that it is simple and straight forward...no frills, no bling...but, incredible driving experience.
It's a flat out analogue experience. Plus it's a smash mouth approach, including the design that one either is enamored of or detests; no middle ground.

While the weakest link as far as design goes, the front fascia is a brilliant transformation compared to the garden variety E82. Most say it has a bulldog appearance, but I'd say it's more like it was given the eye of the tiger. Contrast the 135i I picked up in 2009 at the Welt, and the 1 M I shot in 2011 while picking up a 328iT. And the 3/4 view is singular displaying its muscular side and haunches.

I'm not ashamed to state that I paid a $5k premium, and that was as the 3rd owner when I acquired it in 2012 with only 1,800 miles on the odo. 32,000 miles later I look on it as the best automotive decision I have made to date.

Time has a way of changing one's perspective (I was that guy that at one time said he would never pay MSRP for any vehicle, period), but at least at this point in time I am not passionate enough about the CS to pay MSRP.

The saddest thing with the CS is that most will sock them away in their garage, or in their warehouse and never drive it, instead of putting it on the road or track as the tour de force they were engineered for.

There's too many guys with 1 M's that are missing out on enjoying more smiles per mile, in hopes of cashing in big some day down the road, when tomorrow is never a given you will arise to see it.

Here's hoping I will at least see one of these on the road in my lifetime, and not stuffed away in somebody's museum.

I plan to beat the snot out of the CS assuming I get one. Drive it like I stole it. That's one of the selling points for me is that is been sorted to the point that it can be reliably beat upon.
