Water pump failure ?!

Was driving in Toronto to my hotel when alerts going off engine overheating. Pulled over turned off to cool down. Looked for closest dealer ended up driving very slow over. They took it in did quick check told me water pump failed. Long weekend so next week to find out more. So never tracked and normal city highway driving and 25000km and this fails? I would think a 2017 bmw m2 being a track built car would be tougher than this! Very inconvenient.

is very inconvenient and hope it gets sorted out asap

Is this a prevalent issue for the M2?

First time hearing this...

That seems really early. I thought they improved the water pumps from previous generations. Let us know how it goes.

Got call today ..part had to come from Germany...2 weeks! No parts found in all canada to repair. Now I have to have crappy rental car and drive back up to toronto to get another rental but from enterprise this time. This apparently will be covered under bmw road side assistance. Since the breakdown occurred 200km from my home eligible for costs up to certain amount but I need to pay for now then put in all receipts to claim later. This is really inconvenient timing. I loved the m2 but i am having reservations of getting another german car after having this issue at low milage and previous cars (bmw) having problems.

It does seem early...what a PITA.

Is this issue as prevalent as the old HPFP issue?

Plenty of M2's out there (and on this forum) with a lot more mileage on the odometer than OP and this is the first I've heard of this happening. Hopefully (unfortunate for OP) this was some sort of one-off...maybe it was somehow damaged after it left the factory. But if that were the case, perhaps the dealer would have said something or it would have failed even sooner than it did.
