I find the N55 in my M2 has more immediate torque at 2000-3500 than the S55 in my F80 M3, especially in comfort throttle map. |

Yes, the N55 in the M2 feels like the N55 in BMW’s normal models. Torquey down low, good for running around town. The first year M3/M4 had same torque shove down low. Initial owners, magazine/video reviewers complained about it. They wanted a more linear powerband. BMW has slowly evolved the tune on the S55, hit the sweet spot with the ZCP. Builds power all the way through rev range. OG M2 just feels like my old N55 135i with a tune, doesn’t have the rev happy M character. The achilles heel of the N55 is the air to air cooling, it can’t keep up on scorching days.

I hope that seeing it in the flesh changes that (I love the M2, and its fantastic squat look) ... but right now, HS looks to me like undercoat. Its as though BMW's colour designer saw a car emerging from the rust-proofing dip and thought "let's stop the painting process now" ... I am not a fan of the wheels either (they'd be a nightmare to clean): what I don't understand is why BMW didn't allow purchasers to specify the 437 option..? I think the 437 wheels are some of the best looking available from BMW, so its a shame they were deleted as an option |

They are standard on the entry level "Pure" model in Australia. Not my cup of tea at all, but at least there is still an option if that's your thing.

Good old 437m comes as standard on Dutch M2 Comp....
Each to their own, but I'm very happy with my HS + 788M M2Comp. It steers a tad better, looks a tad better imho. But the engine, you forget the somewhat muted sound(from 4000-4500 and beyond it sounds pretty ok) My car at the dealership: The engine is a masterpiece. It's so easy and so powerful already on 25% or half throttle. Totally different sensation than N55 in M2 Ik had OG M2 + MPE: Great car (understatement) but this is something else as whole package. Lightweight exhaust will be ordered though(or MPE) Cheers Robin |

Saw my first M2C at the dealer yesterday. I think it looked great but the sound at startup was terrible. I know I will keep my OG M2 for a long time.

I actually had the opportunity to drive an m2c, '18 m2, and an m240i with xdrive in a row and it was really a treat. I'm currently in the market to replace my 2012 Cooper S and want to try out a ton of cars since it really doesn't need to be a DD and I'm not overly pressed for time. These were all driven on the street and highway and each drive was about 30-45 minutes so quite short, but not absurdly so.
M240i: Easily would be my pick if you wanted a DD first and a fun car second. The AWD would be a bonus for Toronto winters. The adaptive suspension was nice and you could certainly appreciate comfort for a traffic filled commute and roads under construction. The shifts were quick, but lacked any feedback. The steering was dead and completely unfeeling. The sound was largely absent, but it was properly quick when you put your foot down. The power was immediate, but it seemed like was at its best down low. This was my first time driving an 8 speed so that would just take some getting used to. Braking was adequate for the road, but I'd imagine wouldn't be enough for track use. Interior was classic BMW so nothing spectacular, but nice and solid. Overall a great package for the price, but felt more like playing a video game than truly an engaging experience. M2C: In HS with a DCT. First, the car is absolutely gorgeous to look at. I personally adore the colour and it certainly wowed me. The brakes are wonderfully huge and I actually liked the wheels, which were in black. Interior was like the other car and the seats were pretty to look at. Personally I didn't really care for them if I would have to sit in them for an extended amount of time, but at the same time I'd get used to them. The shifts were lightening fast, but still a bit unengaging other than it just worked. The s55 was silky power and just felt on tap whenever and wherever. Steering feel was much improved over the m240, but still nothing to write home about. The suspension was superb and did feel more refined than the M2. The sound is just disappointing compared to the previous iteration, but overall isn't the worst. The car feels more refined than the M2 and does 'camry' mode (still pretty rough but it's quite) and then great sports car when you want to. Fantastic next iteration. M2: In lbb with a DCT. Just like the m2c the car is just good looking and really catches your eye especially in lbb and I especially like the rear end. The brakes are large, but definitely don't compare to the m2c. On the street it isn't likely to really matter, but on the track the extra brakes on the C can't hurt. I prefer the wheels on the M2 over the m2c, but that's completely subjective. The interior is very similar to the m2c, but obviously the seats are different. In this case I preferred the feel of the M2 seats over the C, but aesthetically the m2c's are just better looking. I really preferred the DCT feel in the M2 vs the m2c with the more jerky feel that was still extremely quick. The n55 is such a different beast than the s55, which is definitely the more capable engine for future tunability and the power is just so seamless. However, the n55 is a treat to rev out and is engaging and fun. The exhaust note on the car is phenomenal. The suspension feels similar to the m2c in terms of firmness, but maybe a bit less sure footed in a turn over a bumpier surface. The idea that the m2c or M2 is too firm as a DD is nonsense if your used to a sportier car. The steering felt identical to the m2c, which was okay but still nothing great. The M2 feels more raw than the m2c. Overall all 3 cars share a lot of similarities, but with some very key differences. Coming from the mini cooper S (it has some basic mods) I prefer the rawness of the M2 that I feel like the m2c lost. If someone is just looking for a quick car and is talking 0-60 times just buy the m240 (or if they have the $$ an rs3). The m2c I think lost something in character, but gained some refinement and is going to be the better track car as well. The M2 was just fun. I haven't bought yet and the wife has her opinion, but for me I'll take the less refined car that makes me smile when I start it and can feel the character without going to jail or needing to hit the track everytime. Nope, not sloppy either. They are indeed technical, but they don't have first hand knowledge of the product, nor are they supposed to. They are given the copy to distribute.
