Love how this review and most reviews turn it into a M2 CS vs M2 Comp review even though they stated it's M2 CS vs. Cayman GT4. My take on this is he prefers Porsche over BMW for a straight performance car. I'm glad they are comparing the M2 CS to cars like this but really they (price aside) are two pretty different cars.

Regardless of them both being small and "drivercentric" (yes, I realize Dan is just trying to justify the comparison), they are very different cars. I've owned multiple GT3's and had a PTS 981 GT4, as well. Performance aside, I can tell you first hand that these two-seater Porsches are just highly impractical for many occasions. For the track? Sure. For canyon carving and mountain drives? Sure. But part of what makes the M2 CS (and M2 line, general) so special is that on top of being a high-performance track car, it's an incredibly practical and versatile everyday car. And with the adaptive suspension in the CS, even more so. I want -- heck, I *need* -- a car that I can take everywhere, so I'm not constantly finding myself in the wrong car when a window to let off some steam and have a fun drive suddenly pops up. It's amazing how many of these comparison reviews completely miss this point. At least Dan touched upon it in this one. Overall, a well-done review imo.

The regular M2C would be a closer comparison with the GTS 4.0. I dare to say the GTS 4.0 also is a better sports car than a M2C but in the spirit of versus, the M2C is the more versatile and powerful car, but mid-engine, 4.0L NA engine in a 3200 lb car with exceptional balance, traction and arguably one of the best handling cars is just hard to beat for a coupe with a big engine, no matter how much carbon fiber, race parts and $ you throw at the car... |

Then the new M3/M4 with all-wheel drive or an M5 is the way to go. M2C is a different story as it costs significantly cheaper. But not an M2CS. P.S. M2CS is far from being a high perfomance track car. It fits the job pretty bad in comparison to ANY cayman/boxster. Last edited by kart driver; 12-03-2020 at 06:47 PM.. |

The GT4/CS debate is almost ridiculous. It's a testament to the CS that its considered competition. It looks fantastic. If I were single, or maybe married with no kids I could see myself sporting a GT4. Id probably would have an older 911 instead. In Europe where the price is a toss up it would be a tough call if both were options for your life.
However, I have kids and need a functional DD. My CS spec is $85k. My spec for a GT4 is 115k. My M2CS, on paper, isn't much slower than a purpose built track focused sports car. That's on point. |

In Aus we financially can’t compare the three cars,
AUD$ M2CS $155k Cayman GTS $199k (nil options) Cayman GT4 $236k (nil options) *base price manual gearbox’s And the reality is most Aus P cars come with $20-$30k of options that, realistically, come as standard on the CS. |

I thought of the GT4 because no doubt it's an amazing machine but my M2CS is $84k, and the cheapest GT4 I see in the US for sale right now is $105k, and most are $110-120k...I certainly hope for the price difference it's better.

I didn't like the gt4 and ultimately went back to a gt3 line up, for track days cars are getting so fast out there that I needed more straight line power... Anyone needing a track toy should be getting a gt4.... |

It's funny the cost of upgrading from a CS to a GT4 is cheap relative to the cost of upgrading from a M2 comp to a CS. Deal of the century cheap...you can't even compare.

I would rather have a used GT3 than a new (or used) GT4 all day every day. If you're going to go that direction, do it right.
In the US market a new M2cs is 80-95, a new GT4 is easily pushing 130, and you can get a 15/16 GT3 for 125-130. The M2cs is not in the same price bracket as the Porsches, it's why all the comparisons are from Europe. |

CS to GT4 18,000. M2 comp to CS is about 25,000. Those are base prices, to option a GT4 close to a CS seems like a bit of a jump price wise. You can go to the Porsche NA site and option a GT4 the way you'd like and I'd bet it's not under 125,000. Yet a fully optioned CS is about 97k, to get a GT4 with the same its at least 115,000.

I keep pace with GT4's and GT3's in my track-modded 1M routinely. Mods in sig. It is driver and tire dependent. I am routinely asked at track days "what have you done to this?" I think it irks them to see a relative brick of a car reeling them in. LOL
