Michelin Pilot Sport 4S vs Continental Sport Contact 7- UK / Irish Roads & Weather
Excuse the pedantic title, but I do believe tyre choice for a daily driver, for those of us living with Irish or UK roads and weather, is quite different to the US or even much of mainland Europe.
I've had my 2018 M2 LCI for about 9months now, though really only ~6 months of driving due to time away (holiday/work, not jail...). The Pilot Super Sports on her are in need of replacement. The general comments I've seen so far, on PS4S vs SC7 are: - SC7 is better in wet - SC7 is grippier overall, perhaps too much so that it doesnt give way as progressively as the PS4S (*post was by someone running wider than OEM tyres), and when it does give way, and then re-catches grip, it can be snappy. - SC7 wears/wears out faster *and/or* comes with less thread to begin with - I've seen varied comments on this with some suggesting as much as half the lifespan for the SC7s..., to others saying that in the most recent iterations of the tyres, the thread depth difference is much more minor than it was in the earlier versions (not clear if this means PS4S thread has reduced, or SC7 increased) - SC7 are much cheaper - this much, is very clear. Pricing on Oponeo.ie - 4x SC7 €918 (OEM, 19" 245/35 Front, 265/35 Rear). - 4x PS4S €1100 (this is all before cost of fitting...probably another €100) Would love to hear some personal experiences of either/both, and, from anyone that can corroborate or refute the wear or thread-depth comments. |
