I'm surprised that BMW would pay for the wheel refurbishment. Just be aware that unfortunately it's probably going to happen again.

It was a good will gesture for a 30 year plus customer to be honest.

Agree, definitely will happen again and the next repair will be at my cost.

Finally got around to installing all the parts I had been accumulating over the past couple of months... Starting with the most recent and most exciting first:

Active Autowerke Equal Length Mid-pipe (non-res)

Name: 20210705_193418.jpg
Views: 757
Size: 247.1 KB

I was very skeptical at first, but am so glad I pulled the trigger and installed it. It changes the tone of the S55 in an incredibly good way. Surprisingly enough, when driving conservatively the loudness isn't that much greater than stock which is exactly what I was looking for. Around 4-5k RPM is where it really opens up and sounds harmonic. Here's my favourite sound clip of it on my Youtube. For additional footage checkout the story highlight on my instagram page (and drop a follow if you'd like).

Next up I installed the Turner Motorsports Black Powder Coated Skid Plate for added oil cooler protection. This is a very nice piece and fits like OEM. Install took about 2 hours by myself. I also added some black mesh to provide additional protection.

Lastly, I made some quality of life improvements to refine the interior acoustics. Added back some of the OEM 2 Series sound-deadening - front sealing foam and rear side panels. (Yes, I know this might seem counter-intuitive considering I got the mid-pipe, but it quiets up the cabin without interfering with the enjoyment of the car).

Apologies if I missed it, but did you find the answer to this question?

I didn't find the answer for the M2C MPE tips on the stock exhaust, but I ended up going with the ones designed for the stock exhaust and am quite happy with them. I posted pics of them somewhere in this thread or in the same version of this thread but for the M2.

Hi mate
Do the new wheels have more clearance between the front brake caliper and the rim, or is it just the angle of your pix.
Cheers
I think it's just the angle. Space between caliper and wheel is still pretty tight.

I see you installed the skid plate under the bumper and left off the rivet that can't be put back in due to the shape of the skid plate being different than OEM. I did the same thing. There was some debate a few months ago if the skid plate was supposed to fit on the outside of the bumper.

Hi, I had the same problem. Not surprising really as the clearance between the caliper and wheel barrel is just right to trap small stones. I was advised of a cheap easy way to help prevent this occurring. A small piece of thin shaped strong rubber which you can wedge behind the brake pipe on the bottom of the caliper (which keeps it in place) The rubber only need to be the width of the caliper and can be positioned so it just clears the wheel barrel. This deflects small stones from going in between the caliper and wheel, which I have done on mine and so far it has worked! Worth a shot and costs next to nothing

Yes, I had seen that debate! I think the answer that came from Turner was that it should slot back into the bumper. This solution is solid!

Just use 3m double sided automotive tape. You can pick it up at most auto parts stores.
