CS with Akra EVO setup

Ok, so I just offloaded my AA EL midpipe and Remus Race setup. (Coldstart was probably the only reason I got rid of it. The rasp and ramp up every start made me cringe.

I installed the Akra evo Midpipe, and catback and compared to my M2 Comp, I feel like the cold start is alot quieter, and overall not as loud. I did buy the exhaust pre owned, but from what I remember on just the catback I was expecting a louder exhaust/ just not the crazy rasp I got on the Remus.

Am I just over thinking it? or is the Akra system just that much quieter?
or was my remus installed wrong with the valves always open.

Akra I can see the valves closed on cold start and only open in sport+ after its reached temperature.

I may just need to get a valve controller.

Thanks

SWCC.

Why didn't you just code the cold-start out?

That’s part of it. I don’t think the Akra is overly loud in the first place and the stock downpipes will mute it a bit more at that. Does have a good sound though. I have a full setup on a comp with AA downpipes w/HFC and it sounds good but the volume still isn’t overpowering with those cats.

I do have a controller too and have the valves default to open and like that option.

I have this kit with the valve controller. You’re not wrong, it’s fairly quiet with the valves closed. May be worth getting a controller to open up the valves if you want volume but you also get a lot of vibration of the cabin, so I typically leave mine closed.

Think I’m just surprised my m2comp was louder than the CS

I have only the ak axel back on my cs and I had to install a valve controller to really enjoy it. With its closed the car is very tame (even in start up). I had the same reaction when I had the stock valve logic. I was always wanting more.

I purchased the cg controller (extremely easy install) and I have it defaulted to always open.

The Akra system is night and day with valves open or closed. Closed valves and I'd say it's quieter than stock in some instances. Valves open and it's significantly louder than stock. Add Akra downpipes and valves closed is loud, but tolerable. Valves open is ridiculously loud, roudy, obnoxious, and fun.

I have the valve controller so I can open the valves on startup. Downpipes add a drone at some rpms that you don't have to worry about with the stock DPs.

Before the DPs, I always drove with valves open to get the volume I want. With DPs I rarely touch the valve controller

Yeah I think that may be the difference. I was comparing to my M2C, and somehow that is much louder with just the back box.

I would guess part of it is in the tune and when the exhaust valve opens…e.g. at what RPM or possibly throttle position. To that point, CS definitely has less “pops and bangs” vs a Comp.

Cold start only lasts until you drive off. Just a few seconds. It isn’t the nicest sound but you only have to endure it for a few seconds.

Stock exhaust seems to sound better and better with age. I like how it is quiet most of the time and makes a decent sound when giving it the herbs. Especially through a tunnel. Note. I only drive with the window open unless it is ridiculously hot weather. Window closed there isn’t much happening.

Nicer, deeper sound on the CS versus C. Plus no pops and crackles. That was a very pleasant surprise.

You mentioned some drone with the Akra dp. I’m assuming that’s also with the valves closed. Also, did you tune the car with the Akra DP? I’ve been toying around getting the Akra dp or the midpipe. I would rather not tune the car so I was leaning towards the midpipe.

There is no drone with valves closed but it still uses the factory logic, so you will get drone when the valves start to open
An odd behavior I noticed with that Akra valve controller is that. Initially it follows factory logic. Switch valves to full open and they stay open. Switch valves to close (this should switch back to following factory logic) it seems like they stay closed and no longer follow factory logic.

It's great. Especially on the highway.

I bought a complete akra and two days later it went into protection mode...what can I do?
I don't want to touch the switchboard

Someone who has akra, how do I solve it?

The Akra has always been a bit more of the conservative side when it comes to overall volume. I've always been a fan of that having ran other systems like iPE for other cars and I must be getting too old because even I start to cringe at that volume. My bike has a full Akra Ti system and it's soo obnoxiously loud, but I do it because I'm trying not to get ran over here in LA splitting lanes, so it's gotta be done!

Hopefully you solved this. How are you liking the full system?

That’s what I would have assumed - but not the case for me. The “rasp” sticks around for the first 5 mins or so of driving. If it was just that initial start, I would have been fine leaving my AA EL unresonated…but has to make the change because that rasp lasted much longer than a traditional cold start. If I closed the valves and babied it, not a huge deal, but still cringe worthy sound.

At days end I’m learning there is no PERFECT all in one exhaust solution for these cars…always a trade off / some push and pull…just have to find what is most important to you and what compromises you can accept, and that’s the one.

I think you're right about no exhaust being perfect. You kinda have to pick where you prioritize the best sound in the region you like. I really like the Akra on heavy throttle.
