Happened to my m235i. $1800 in damages. Apparently, BMW and few other car manufacturers use wiring insulation that contains soy.

This is good advice. I once put an unopened bag of bird seed in my garage -- I even put it in a thick black garbage bag, but they still chewed through both.

The next time I took my car (135i at the time) in for service, they noticed droppings in the engine bay (not on top, deeper in the engine). I keep multiple traps and poison in the garage now and never put anything that might attract them.

So what's the best preventative step here?

Peppermint oil, capsaicin, Bounce, cats? Lol.

You can try this DIY remedy on your exotics

This worked according to the caretaker of these cars.

Very common in the Lotus community as well. Thankfully they only made a nest in my own car (before it was mine), so no damage, just had to remove the dash to clean everything out properly.

I had numerous CEL in my 2017 Audi R8 felt due to mice invasion. Repair was $8700 and took 2 months. USAA homeowners insurance picked up $6800 of the cost.
