Ha. Yeah. I was actually really excited about it when I picked up my daily-driver GTI a year or so back that had it as a built-in option. The novelty of yelling at Siri while blasting down the highway only to have "Play the Beatles" be interpreted as "Calling Brian" is infuriating.

For what it's worth, Android Auto is actually really nice. Too bad it doesn't work on BMWs as of yet. The speech recognition is 100x better in my experience.

Agreed, I turned CarPlay off after 5 minutes of owning the car and have not turned it back on since.

It is disappointing for sure. Only thing it's somewhat usable for is streaming music from the iPhone. I was surprised how underbaked it is. Main reason I got it is in hopes that it will be improved with future updates.

I got it for Spotify integration and love it.

Very minimal options and I'd like for more apps to be integrated in the future. But this is software related so happy with the feature for the moment.

I hold my cars for a awhile so it's a value add for me.

My car came with Car Play. I disabled it. The volume on phone calls was terrible. Much better using the iDrive.

I would have if any iPhone App (not just the few ones Apple decided) could be mirrored on the idrive display.

I personally like it for the maps integration alone. Yelp a place at home. Click directions. Maps opens with directions set. Jump into car. Navigation is up and running seamlessly.

Music is ok. I like Spotify in the sense that I don't have to have the app open to use like I did using idrive.

To each their own. I also think CarPlay can get updates? Last idrive I got, nothing really drastically changed.

Too be honest I think the concept is good but it seems very buggy. I guess it depends on what you use it for. For certain apps I gues it's nice but I find that it doesn't work that well for me. I like the idrive better.

It doesn't access my contacts easily, often times when I'm trying to make a call the radio is still blaring in the background, if I have a multimedia app up and running and I'm trying to use the idrive it keeps going back to CarPlay. I just find that it's difficult to use and didn't work that well when I was making phone calls which is what I use it for most. For certain apps I guess it's good but I don't use them while driving.

It's only $300 and maybe worth adding with hopes that future versions are better ....

Yeah, in my experience, SIRI/iOS is awful at recognition compared to Google Assistant/Android.

Made it a full two days before turning off. Oh and if a phone call comes in while it is reading a text, it's all over until you power off and power on the car. Agree with OP, a serious waste of $300.

Find an attorney and file a class action suit against BMW for ripping us off. Then, the attorneys would get millions and each of us would get a $15 ITunes gift card for our troubles.

Seriously, BMWNA needs to hear from those who are disappointed. The last think a manufacturer wants is for its customers to be disappointed in their product based upon the failure of a vendor-supplied feature.

No it's not bad. Surprised you would consider it based on a "review" by someone who supposedly used it for less than a day.

The reading of emojis is hilarious though. Cracks me up every time and helps me forget for a moment about the $300 I spent on it.

I find the maps to be sub-par but all in all I don't thinks it's actually all that bad. Yes a little buggy but still OK to live with. I like the phone and text integration. Podcast integration is nice too. Pandora integration is worthless.

Guess I'm not the norm with carplay. For $300 I was pleasantly surprised that it worked as well as it does. All I really use it for though is pandora and integrated Nav. I'm not a fan of BMW Nav as I find it about as intuitive as the federal government. So anything to stay away from their nav is worth it to me.
