For my install, I found that it was a lot easier to take the bumper half way off. I took off all the bottom screws and the fender screws and swung the bumper forward a bit (away from the car). This gave me a lot more clearance to get the CSF intercooler in. I did have to get new washers though of course.

Hey Ravi,

Is there any chance that you could potentially help us N55 guys with high coolant temps on track - and this is even with your entire cooling suite. The problem is that the n55 radiator is just too small because the intercooler sits underneath of it - meaning the radiator must be a bit shorter. So I was wondering if it was at all possible to make an ER style intercooler that doesn't have the section that sits under the radiator, and then make a larger radiator that now goes all the way down to where the intercooler normall sits. This would buy us like ~30cm more radiator height, and therefore alot more volume and surface area - which should in turn solve the high coolant temp issues us tuned N55 guys face on track.

Thanks!

Couldn’t you use an S55 radiator at that point and then the ER/ARM style intercooler?

No, the intercooler end tanks are just a bit too close meaning the s55 radiator won't fit.

Do we use the original included screws with the new washers? Or are there new bolts that are now being included?

Yup just confirmed with CSF that we're still supposed to use the original phillips head screws with the new washers!

Of course.

The first 2 pix are mine. The next 2 are the ones that Ravi sent me, comparing them to the originals. These things are quite huge, and will do the job, but if I'm honest what I had wished for was something like what I made, something rectangular. But I'm sure the new washers will do fine.

I do agree with that rectangular washer as that would make the screws closer to the IC. I think if this is too large it may actually push the plastic brackets out further. The side of the washer may rub on the IC....as shown on the photo.

Does anyone know the specs of the stock CSF intercooler bolts? I was thinking of getting some aftermarket torx head ones for when I fit in the new washers

Did it come with screws? I kinda remember that people bought screws (larger than stocks) and washers for them. Unless my memory is wrong.

I posted on my comment before the same thought but ended deciding not to, it’s all under and hidden anyways. Couldn’t make myself go under again.

M6x20 is what I posted was the size of the stocks. Which I also did not re-use bec the CSF is far heavier than the stock to use that.

Someone posted this (below)…. but #12 is a smaller DIA compared to the M6. But longer.

Got #12x1-1/4" Torx screws and large washers along with some cushion washers from McMasterCarr.

Mine came with screws and washers. I didn't notice at first, they were in the bag with the intercooler, and I totally looked over them. I was a bit miffed at first, but needed to get the work done, so I fabbed some larger washers and used the stock screws .

This worked for me for the short time I needed it to, and I then decided to get some larger screws. On the off chance I missed the installation hardware I took everything out of the box and there they were, 4 silver bits hidden in a small clear bag inside of a larger clear bag (needless to say they were hard to see). I was mad at CSF, and myself.

Anyway, I used the larger screws, pitched the terribly inadequate washers in the bin, and all was well.

I'm going to do this job yet AGAIN, but this next time I'm going to replace the screws with allen-head bolts.

I didn't have an issue with the supplied screws, other than the fact that they were screws instead of allen heads. You're basically trying to fit a much larger screw into the stock screw hole, which makes it hard if you're using a Phillips. Best to replace them with the same size/length but allen head.
