Chris Harris is a great driver and he is very good at expressing his impressions of a car but it cracks me up how so many take his thoughts as gospel. I have had two people tell me that I should have gotten a manual in my M2 because Chris Harris says it's the proper transmission. I'm happy he likes the car, he liked the last M2, the M4, every 911, every McLaren and every Ferrari also. It's only when he has to compare that he begins his criticisms many of which are not bound in reality like how well a car drifts. Having said that he is a great driver and I enjoy his work, I just take what he says with a very large grain of salt.

He owns a 1M. Therefore he must be right

In the end people should use their own opinions. I understand that a lot of people aren't able to create their own opinions and must be spoon fed ideas however it's not the best way. I find it comical how many people follow others opinions over thinking for themselves. Must be a symptom of modern living!

I remember when ~6 seconds was AMAZING. I guess that's why I'm happy in my old, hydraulic E36M

Then again, build an M2GC, and I'll be at the dealership. I'll keep the E36 around under a cover, but it could use a refresh. I'm hoping with the growth of the G20 to 5 series sizing, they'll add an inch or two to the 2 series refresh to get to E46 size and see fit to carve two more doors out of it. the term "Drift machine" for the two series would seem to imply the BMW realizes they have a reputation to uphold. I want one more fun skidpad car with easy loading track-tire doors before I die...

No thanks. Pls don't grow the 2 series any bigger. The current size is perfect.

If you want a bigger 4 doors for drifting just get the F80 M3...they are on sale and you still can get them in 6MT

You will enjoy this article then. I have a suspicion the G8x models will be special.

Please stay, you're such an inspiration to us all.

Making you go around in circles: You need to buy M2C: it can do that, donuts and stuff.

So is that all we have so far? Like, 15 seconds? The way Bimmerpost wrote their headline it sounded like he did a full fledged review.

Isn't the current 2 series wider than the E46?

Just give us a 4 door version.

Laaaww ha'mercy! I'll say.

Corporate lease 420d M Sport anyone? Audi A4 diesel? Any more diesels? Jaguar diesel? Oooom. They sound like they're vomiting above 3,000 rpm. Why would people not like that?

The M2C is 4.5 inches wider and the same length. The standard 2 is an inch shorter and 1.5 inches wider than an E46. The old 3 really did become the 2.

He also really enjoyed the MK7 Golf R, which I got (the MK7.5) and it was not even close to how he described it. Obviously I did not get it based on his recommendation, I got it before he said anything about it, but at the end of the day, he is a journalist, so take everything with a grain of salt.

That being said, it does not sound like an earth shattering improvement over the standard M2. Nothing you couldn't achieve with some tuning on your own.
+1

It's funny, but after watching like... 800 Motor Trend, Carfection, and Chris Harris Drives Youtube reviews, all these reviewers openly joke about their "formula":

1. Test drive MY18, and it's awesome!
2. When MY19 comes out, even if it's only marginally better, rave as though it's the second coming
3. Say that MY18 was deficient in every way

Kind of reminds me of debates in sports about which athlete is the "greatest of all time." I mean, objectively, athletes are getting faster, stronger, more agile, etc., every year. (Whether that's due to PEDs or whatever is a debate for another time... but every year, records are broken, and these men and women keep doing things that we've never seen done before.) So, whenever people say, "Oh, is Messi the greatest of all time? Or does Maradona deserve that crown?" I think they're asking 2 different things:

1. Is Messi objectively the best of all time?
2. Is Messi more dominant relative to his peers than Maradona was dominant over his peers?

Given that, there's an argument to be made that the answer is yes to #1, but no to #2.

Same thing with the M2 and M2C. Maybe the M2C is objectively better than the OG M2. But, maybe the OG M2 was better positioned relative to peers for its time period.

Anyway, agree with you 100%. Both cars awesome, and the change from OG M2 to M2C is purely evolutionary.
That answer is no. Lol Maradona is more dominant than Messi.

Shall we start a thread on Pele v Maradona v Ronaldo (Rotundo) v Ronaldinho v Messi v CR7?

If people think the venom going back and forth on this forum about Nürburgring times is bad, they haven't seen anything yet!
