Cold Start Noise - Stock vs. MPE

Hi all,

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the MPE but I have a concern. I live in quite an enclosed area and the cold start noise of my stock M2 probably annoys the neighbours as it is. I fully expect (and want) the MPE to be louder, but not on a cold start. Would I be right in saying, on a cold start with the exhaust in 'default' mode, it would still channel through the muffler and as such the noise difference would be negligible compared to stock? I'm aware the muffler is a slightly different design and the valves are open on cold, just hoping the noise isn't too much louder...

In a nutshell, I'm looking for someone who's gone from stock to MPE to comment on the difference in cold start volume.

Thanks!

It's much louder even with valves closed. If you haven't already.. maybe consider a custom tune with cold start minimized?

My car has my own custom tune via BM3. With cold start RPM reduced while maintaining cat heating. It's much more civilized in the cold.

Thanks, unfortunately at this stage I don't want to risk voiding my warranty and I'm under PCP so I wouldn't consider a tune at the moment. I'll have to give it some extra thought, don't want to build a bad reputation with the neighbours!

It's way louder than the stock on cold start. But, you can work around it by maintaining throttle at 1200-1500 rpm - this acts as a cold start delete.

This ^^^^. It makes a racket if you don't do this but it's not overly loud if you just touch the throttle for a few seconds.

Go for it, you won't regret it.

Like people allready said, just press the pedal lightly and it's not so loud anymore.
I have a straight pipe and sometimes in 1-3 of my neighbours cars the alarm will go on when i fire my car up. Cold start tuned away now tho.

IF you set off right away, there's no issue. MPE is not too bad either. However if you're planning to get a downpipe, then the cold start is straight up obnoxious and intolerable.

No downpipe, that would definitely open the door to complaints haha I will look at getting MPE and report back if I end up getting it

Most important thing: you will NOT regret getting the MPE!

On the cold start, yes, it is considerably louder than the stock exhaust (I only have the comparison to the test drive vehicle with the stock exhaust I drove vs my own with MPE). Mitigation strategy is to increase the rpm just slightly right after start.
If you will have the cold start vibration, many MPE owners seem to have, it makes it worse.

But again, I would not want to miss my MPE!
