😡 I lost against a ‘16 Camaro SS 1LE

Try keep it short.
Raced a guy I know. Roads are dead.
He just got a ‘16 camaro ss 1le.
Stock besides. Headers & exhaust.
I’m fbo. Dct.
Never raced my car at all. I fig I was lighter & more HP.
He wanted go from roll. 2x.
Once from 45ish. Once from 60. I think.
Both times. Took off. He gained maybe a car ahead of me. & then we stayed even distance. Rest.
Then did stand still. I took him from start. Then at about. 70.
Same thing as before.
I left in “ auto “. Sports +. Whole time.
I was little bummed. Is he just faster or do I was driver fault. Maybe if used paddles. & better driver. My car be faster ?
I just fig. I had advantage.

Later we tested launch control. Did it twice. Def made diff.
& then drove a little using paddles.
He said if done that. He thinks. I prob woulda won.

Any body else race one ? Is it car or me.
Just feel with mods. I shoulda been faster

Flame away for racing

I'll assume you were in Mexico.

How much HP is your M2 making? Camaro will make ~440 with just intake and tune. With headers and a tune probably closer to ~470 to the wheels. I don't think it's too much of a surprise actually.

At least it wasn't one of the newer Mustangs. They pull even harder up top and it would likely just keep walking away.

My cousin has a 17 V8 Camaro, and I will say I'm very impressed in the way it delivers it's power and how it handles! Great value for the money and I prefer the exterior looks over it's other American competitors.

Heck around VIR Track the Camaro SS 1LE beats the OG M2 by tenths of a second; it's also just 1 second slower than the M2C.

Lots of good point, but I have to correct the last statement.

Camaro is 5s faster around VIR than M2C, and 7s faster than OG M2. Not sure why people think it's the other way around.

Have to give respect where it is due.

Don't be an idiot and danger to yourself and others by racing on public roads. They have places called race tracks where you can bring your car to drive as fast as you want....

It's not you or your car, 1LE are a beast. 455 HP/455TQ, 0-60 in 4.1 stock. With his mods crank - 480 ish

1LE with specific mods, very hard for an M2 to win against that.

you bought the wrong car for straight line racing....camaros and mustangs were pretty much built from the factory to do that.

Our cars are literal pigs. The weight difference between the 2 is smaller than you'd think, and you have to make do with less HP & TQ and turbo lag. If you bought the M2 to drag race, then of course you're going to be disappointed.

I didn’t buy it for that. Just fun car. I’ve put less that 5k miles on it in 15 months of owning.
Idk hp. Only guessing with mods & tune.
Going by what bm3 claims. I think is what. 450 ish

He has no tune.

Like said. First time I’ve ever raced my car & did. Just cause roads are dead right now

Correction. His is a 2015. So little less hp.

N55 gains are limited with the stock turbo, fuel system, cooling, etc.

Such good cars, almost pulled the trigger on one late last year. The biggest downside is the interior / back seats are just about unusable. I would say that the SS 1LE is comparable to the GT350 I ended up buying instead for a lot less money and much less stress with all the issues they've had with the Voodoo 5.2.

I guess I'll be the one to say it. You're an asshole for endangering others lives by racing on the street. Near empty or not.

The turbo is really holding you back as well. Everyone knows it's the weak link. Get a different turbo, address the fuel issue, get a tune, and you're done, really done. At that point it's going to be about traction and skill.

But honestly, he owns a Camaro, and you own an M2, the difference is night and day. Don't try to beat him at his game. If you want to win that game, go buy a C8 Corvette, do 2 mods and you're done.

I feel you. I’ve been debating turbo.

Heck no. I’d still take my M2. Over any camaro any day. Or corvette.

I think there’s only 1 more m2. In area.
Tons of. Vettes Camaros. Mustangs.

So how do you win the BMW game? Just cuz I’m curious. Do you pull up after the other car pulled away between lights or at the track and tell them how few of the one you drive there are? Or do you insist on how much better your interior is, or how much rear leg room you have? What’s the game plan there?

And don’t tell me it’s about handling, because the 1LE has that too.

I just don’t see it. And I own one.

Brother, I'm going to be honest with you.

The M2 is fantastic right off the block, no mods needed at all.

You win the BMW game by realizing that you're happy with what you're driving, even with its shortcomings. If you don't feel that way, then you bought the wrong car.

Of course, if there is some power, suspension or sound that BMW obviously left on the table because they were trying to please everyone, and you see it differently, then by all means, free that up and make the car even more enjoyable, but don't try to make it something it's not.

If you want to drag the best, buy that car.
If you want to handle the best, buy that car.
If you want the fastest roll, buy that car.
If you want the coolest look, buy that car.

It's my assertion that the M2 does all of these things well, just none of them the best, and I'm completely happy with that.

I like that answer. And I would also apply it to other brands. Some are better at comfort, some are better at speed. But as long as we play into the strong suite of the car, we can all be happy.

OH OH I KNOW THIS ONE!!!

You change lanes without the crippling fear that something marginally smaller than a six story building is hiding in your blind spot!
