Passenger mirror when backing up

Hi,

I had a first service not long ago and the passenger mirror stopped pointing down when I put the transmission in reverse.
Tried to look for a setting in the menu but nothing. What am I missing?

Thanks

Take it back in. I'm not aware of any setting that would disable that.

Alternately, if you have bimmercode, there may be something in there to handle it.

I think you have to have the mirror adjustment selector switched to the driver side to have the passenger side auto dip in reverse.

It’s been a BMW feature since E9x, maybe longer.

It’s been invaluable when parallel parking or backing into a parking spot.

This has to be the most unknown/forgotten about thing. Even I forgot it once after someone moved the switch, since it's a set it and forget it thing for me. I ended up putting electrical tape over it so no one touches it.

I need to switch it every time I go to work. I prefer it to be straight when backing out of the driveway. Then I want it to point down when backing into the stall at work.

I believe you can code how much it tilts down. I recall seeing it in the Carly app that I use. Maybe you can find a happy medium.

Or... Maybe BMW shouldn't use buttons/switches intended for one thing affect something completely unrelated.

No need to be condescending on something that is not well known. Not everyone reads the manual cover to cover. (most do not)

It's trash is what it is. Selector to the left should dip the left mirror, selector to the right should dip the right mirror, selector in the middle should be no dip. Anything else is stupidity.

BMW has several small things they need to get with the program on, and this is one of them.

I'm glad someone asked the question because I was wondering the same thing. I didn't know about the feature until I drove an M140i on our ED trip and was disappointed when I thought my M2C didn't have it.

My E46 had it.

You should have a very good memory if you remember everything. I do not have such good memory

BMW intended it to work the way it does. Others should follow. Go look at how many buttons are in a KIA for instance, and you will likely agree with how BMW has done it.

And as for reading front to back...no. But when you do not understand something, it is a great first reference. BMW could not make this any easier by having the manual in iDrive now too.

The E46 M3 also featured a brief beep once you put it in reverse. Not clear why BMW discontinued this detail.

But then again, also the gear stick was lit back then (though it was merely for an aesthetical reason).

Others should not follow, as it makes absolutely no sense how it currently works.

Slide mirror selection switch to driver side for passenger side mirror tilt to work? How is that logical?

It's not about not understanding how something works, its assuming something is broken because there is no logical way to turn it on and off.
