(BTW, my brother does not have kids, so back seats and extra trunk space were not a primary concern).

My brother usually goes for more subdued colors to avoid attention, but I convinced him to get the Carmine Red. He loves it! If I had to choose an M2 or my brother's car (think it is a 2015)... I would 100% go with his car. But I am also excited to see what the M2 offers and love the way it looks as well. In fact, I am getting more fond of the M2's looks every new pic I see. The rear bumper would be my least favorite thing, but overall, the car especially with a few carbon parts and mods is going to be beautiful.

The comparison to an M2 is probably unfair since his GTS is superior in almost every conceivable performance measure and more than twice the price. Although since it is NA 6 cyl vs turbo 6 cyl, the M2 will have that lower end torque to contend with. I can only imagine how fast the 991.2 GTS will be with its turbo 6. That thing is going to be really fast...

This leads to what is great about the M2. Although we still are waiting for more real world experiences (not just by car magazines), the M2 should hopefully be that car many value-minded enthusiasts are looking for. Everyone is praising the price point, and if the M2 delivers (as we will find out soon as Bimmerpost owner reviews trickle in), then BMW has another gem on their hands.

One thing for sure, there are few cars on the road that garner the respect like an M BMW or an GTS Porsche.
GORGEOUS!!!!!!

It would be a dream for me to own one of those. One day. And in Racing Yellow

This is the exact debate i keep having in my head... used 911 (likely 997.2) or a new M2. I like the idea of the 911 for the weekend and occasional track car, but I don't know how willing I am to beat on a 911 at the track, even though they are obviously more than capable of a few track days a year. I also feel like i'd be more hesitant to take it on long weekend trip because I'd be trying to keep mileage down.

The M2 is a good value I think and I wouldn't be hesitant to drive it and track it as much as my heart desired. For now, I'm on a waiting list for the M2. If the wait is too long or I change my mind, my $1000 deposit will be going towards my first 911 (pre-owned). I'm going to keep my f30 335i for a daily driver either way. I love BMWs and would like to add another one to my garage...I hope I get more clarity on my wait time next month (even though i'm not in a big hurry).

You're not beating up a 911 using it for a few DE days on track. The damn things are indestructible and you're probably going to get insurance either way. I'd be more concerned about the BMW breaking under extreme conditions. A good indicator of the durability is the cost of an extended warranty - my 997.2 GTS 24 months/24k miles extended bumper to bumper warranty was $2600, the same 24/24 on my M3 was nearly double that and it didn't cover the Nav/Radio

That's the thing - it seems as though the P cars can "take it" if you will.

My buddy when from a 135 to a 997 CS and has said that the thing works exactly the same on the first lap @ the track or the last one. One big advantage for sure.

I've heard that before and I'm glad to hear it again. I guess I'm just worried about expensive repairs (have heard some scary expensive repair stories). Glad to know that the cost of an extended warranty isn't bad. Definitely worth it. Maybe I should just pull the trigger on a 911... this threat is talking me into it!

Ever see the 991/911 turbo launch test video?

Not like it's cheap to repair a BMW either. I think I'm talking myself into a 911 C2

I knew I had seen a video like that - I just couldn't place where it had originated from. Good stuff.

That seems really expensive. I was recently looking at cpo 911s and I found a good number of well equipped ones for under 70k with less miles than that. Enjoy it though. I've pined over having one for years.

Why do you think I started at $54? That was one of the pros of stepping down to the M2. The 911s is the nicer, faster, better looking car. There's a reason that they cost 2x what the M2 does.

I've seen a lot that that were more expensive than this one, but not a ton that were less.

Not easy to find a manual CPO 911s with SPASM & sport chrono in Agate Gray or Sapphire Blue. I would have settled for one of the metallic reds too, but that was about it.

That's all subjective...imho no 991 is better looking than an M2 except for a GT3/RS....

Is a 458 nicer/faster/better looking than a 991?

Yep(lol)

Is a Bentley better(looking) than....?

No...but more expensive it is

Anyway...

That might be the difference. I was looking at pdk with sport chrono as the minimum options. I don't need all the bells and whistles. I was looking for white but I found the sapphire blue and it's actually a gorgeous color. That wasn't a cpo though so I didn't want to commit. 911 4S will most likely be my next car after the M2 is retired light years away from now. Enjoy it!!

The 911 is an icon alright but not the mythical ultra reliable car some are making out.Every incarnation of 911 has had its problems and they're not small either and just because they cost more it doesn't necessarily mean top quality is guaranteed, just check out Rennlist ! Or any Porsche forum.IIRC Porsche are the most profitable car company on the planet and there's a reason for this.

Personally I'd go for the new, fully warranted M2 and the advantages that comes with buying new,not some potential problem car that somebody has off loaded.I've been there and wouldn't recommend it,but you may strike lucky...the luck of the draw and all that.

Strike it lucky? That's funny. This will be my 4th Porsche, 3 of them used and none of them has spent a single day in the shop. My last performance BMW, E92 M3, was in the shop more often than not.

There is nothing like driving a Porsche on or off track, that's why they're profitable.

I've been waiting for a sapphire blue car with the options I wanted for a while now, I finally got sick of driving my stupid X1 daily and expanded my search. I'm going to stop looking at cars for a while, with my luck the right car in sapphire will pop up tomorrow

That wasn't a cpo though so I didn't want to commit. 911 4S will most likely be my next car after the M2 is retired light years away from now. Enjoy it!!
I've been waiting for a sapphire blue car with the options I wanted for a while now, I finally got sick of driving my stupid X1 daily and expanded my search. I'm going to stop looking at cars for a while, with my luck the right car in sapphire will pop up tomorrow

That is sharp, but it's not my cup of tea at all.
Sounds like my luck! Lol.
