Broken fixing bow on flapper valve

This is the piece that connects the actuator to the valve. When broken the valve makes a huge racket. I made a new one from stiff SS wire.

Curious if others have had this problem?

The thingumy also looks a bit iffy.

The shape is obvious. Bought steel rod same diameter as piece that was left over.
