You know that scene in the Matrix where Neo realizes he’s the “one” and the agents look like they are in slo mo, and he only needs one arm to fight them? Yeah, it’s like that.

Buuuuuut, playing with less powerful cars allows you to explore their limits a lot easier. One of the reasons why I loved my little tuned Abarth so much. And circuits like autocross can be fun too.

I didn’t switch but I have a 14 GTR. I think it honestly depends on what kind of driver you are. If you’re happy smoking people from stoplight to stoplight or if you drag race at the strip then the M2 may not be for you.

I personally road race quite a bit and while the GTR was no slouch, it understeered too much for my taste. I definitely do not think it would be as fun on small tracks versus the M2, but that remains to be seen.

Agree GT-R is no fun to drive on the track and chews up tires/brakes fast. I did not enjoy mine on track. On the street it was a rocket and fun to drive.

I traded my 2015 Z/28 for an '18 M2 one month ago. Zero regrets. Two completely different cars, and I really loved the Z/28 for what it was. The LS7, CCBs, and menacing looks. A conversation starter everywhere it went.

That said, I love everything about the M2 as well. The road goes on.

Does the M2 drive more like a sports car, as in, do you feel more connected? Or was it more comfort that you wanted.

Neither car delivers a true sports car experience IMO, and that's okay. What I wanted by stepping into an M2 was a two door, four-seater that had a smaller footprint with more comfort/luxury, albeit maintaining the same athleticism on and off the track/autocross course.

The Z/28 is surprisingly very nimble given its curb weight and dimensions(112.3" wheelbase and 3820 lb) but struggles in transients and tighter sections on course. I cannot make a direct comparison to the M2 just yet because it's still on OEM tires, but expect it to surpass the former car in everything but straight-line acceleration once on equal footing and some front camber.

I get what you mean OP.
M2 is a great car but not as practical. If you kids are over 10 yrs old, within few years they could not be fitting at the rear seat either. Depends how big and fast they will grow.

I would recommend to Alfa Guilia quadrifoglio.

So basically I can't really use much of the car's performance on the street and don't go to the track.

So I thought, the M2 is a fun little sports car that is also practical and can carry both kids. I'd use it more often and the performance level is more appropriate for the street.

Does that make any sense? Anyone from powerful cars here that have gone down the same road?
I've owned highly modified Corvettes and F-bodies, a CTS V wagon (manual), Jeep SRT etc. My new M2 is the most entertaining car I've ever owned.

(My fastest six speed manual car I went 11.0 @ 129mph naturally aspirated with a built 385, 6 point roll bar etc)

My M2 is a 2018 with DCT (not the comp). My kids love the car.

Go test drive a few and get a good feel for it. I'm certainly not disappointed. Dimensions, power, handling, visibility, overall driving experience is amazing.

**EDIT** - Just saw you already pulled the trigger congrats!

I had a C7 Z06 for a bit - very fast car and very well engineered - but the M2 is a more enjoyable playful fun car unless you live in Utah and can go 180MPH easily everyday.

Interesting discussion, and surprised to see how many people said not to do it. It's definitely a good thing to not see overly bias people contributing.

IMHO, there's something to be said about a fun handing car that is not overly powerful (not that the S55 is what I'd consider slow). I always enjoy driving my E36 M3 because it makes a paltry 240 hp and I can use 100% of it most of the time.

The beauty of the M2 comes from the balance of fun and practicality.
Low end torque makes it a great daily driver.

I'm a firm believer in the fact that u will never find a car that can do it all. I put up with a veloster so I could keep the 1100WHP M3 and saved for the M2C I finally picked up a couple weeks ago. I say one of each. Kinda wish I had kept Veloster for the beach....

Depending on how much you are willing to spend, the M3, and the M5 seem to be more practical for a family cruiser than the M2. All 3 models have some balls to them, just depends on taste, and what you prefer. If you like the V8 sound, def go with the M5.

You're not going to get the sound, even from an M5. As much as I liked the M3, I couldn't go back now that I have nearly 700 hp.

However, I am considering an M5 in a year or so, or maybe the new M3 with AWD. 500 hp that can consistently put it all to the ground would be fine with me.

Good point, either way you choose your going to get a sick car.
