Yeah that’s a good thread. Both the thread and the Varta article make a distinction between State of Charge (which is what BimmerLink shows) and State of Health (which is more complex to measure).

For example, my friend's car m2 still has the original battery, which I believe is from 2018, and it's still working great

Mines from 2016 and it's working flawlessly as well.

For those sharing mileage along with age, how does mileage affect overall battery health / longevity?

FWIW I remember during the 2023-2024 new year I was in DC for about 2 weeks and just leaving the car alone for that much time pissed it off and when I got back it gave me warnings about battery low and like the comfort access wasn’t working etc. …. I asked my service advisor at the dealer about it and he said that was normal. Ooookay. In any case just a few months ago I was out of town for about 5-6 weeks and didn’t have any battery warning issues when I got back so who knows. My car is a 2020 and is parked outdoors in Seattle (can get cold overnight but in general it’s less cold than in the east coast)

Tons of stuff can affect battery usage and life, a big thing is temperature. If you're comparing New Years to a few months ago from now, it could have been a lot warmer which lets batteries hold charge for longer. Freezing cold temperatures for days on end can cause a battery to output low voltage much more easily/quickly.
