Bilstein B16 or KW V3

Hi all!

Looking into getting some coil overs for my OG LCi, my budget doesn't really stretch into nitron territory so i'm left looking at Bilstein B16 or KW V3.

I use my car mainly for B road driving, with a handful of track days per year and an annual Nürburgring trip when Covid allows.

What would be your choice out of the two i mention and why? i should also note i will be adding millway camber plates on top to dial in the front camber some more.

Cheers!

I run KW's for basically the same setup you do.

From my experience, they're more compliant on the road than the Bilsteins

KW allegedly makes the BMW Performance coilovers. Not sure if the V3 is the generic equivalent or slightly different, but that's a pretty strong endorsement from BMW. So I'd probably go that route.

You might be interested in this thread. It shows spring rates and opinions on coilovers.

Add TC Klein’s setup to your list as well. I’m going that route in lieu of the names mentioned after meeting the chief instructor for our BMWCCA HPDEs.

Plenty of threads out there discussing how they compare.

Running the Bilsteins and really liking them. Car rides really well and it's so easy to adjust the dampening. Should be doing some auto-x events soon and see some improvements.

A friend runs AC Schnitzer RS dampers which are effectively KW V3. I have run Bilstein B16 on a number of cars in succession. We both track our cars.

Both systems work very well for the money.

Reliability is a different matter. The adjusters (front)are prone to seizing on KW V3, and he's already had a leaking damper that needed replacing. One of my cars has done 160,000 miles on B16 and not a peep out of them. That would sway me to stick with Bilstein.

I run the Bilstein B16 PSS10 with ground control camber plates at -3.2 front and -2 camber. I've had them on for about three years, 15,000 miles, mostly track but some road. Unlike KW, they are monotube and built like a tank. Easy to adjust and control wheel movement way better than the standard oem shocks, especially over uneven and wavy pavement. You wouldn't be disappointed with Bilstein. There's a reason why Porsche uses them as an oem supplier.

Yeah i've just ordered some B16 and Millway camber plates, GC are very hard to get hold of in the UK. Got a track day booked for middle of may so will be good to see how it compares to OEM.

Bilstein B16 PSS10 with a camber plates at -3.2 sure that it work well?
I mean, the spring of bigger dimension dont' touch inside of the car chassis (example: when you turn the steering left or right in high speed corner)?
