The main difference in track events is that BMWCCA is doing lead follow instructions. They have an instructor and radio communications for each driver on the track. It makes learning the proper lines on the track much easier.

They just repaved the track late last year and I haven’t been there in the dry yet. Interesting to hear it seemed slick to you. Others are telling me it’s running 2-3 seconds faster than the old surface.

ORP was a good time. I was able to get a 1:58 CCW Saturday after things dried out (we started the day with 33* and snow), and a 1:59 Sunday toward the end of the day. My previous best both directions was 2:04, so I was pretty happy with the weekend.
That's great to hear you had fun at ORP and those are some pretty good times. Just curious, what's your setup (tires, suspension, etc.)?

I'm guessing my traction issues at The Ridge were because my tires have a lot of heat cycles in them and should be replaced. Probably take my comments on traction with a grain of salt. And now that I think about it, the hamsters in the FiST were quite eager at sea level so that likely explains all the spinning.

Cooked tires sounds about right.

Setup on the M2;
Ohlins R&T
AP Essex front brakes (stock rear) with Ferodo 3.12 pads all around
Rear toe links and front torque arm monoball
Apex 18x9.5/10.5 wheels wearing Falken Azenis RT660 265f/275r 35r18
3.2 camber with 0 toe front, and 2.3 camber with factory toe in spec out back.

Some minor weight savings from rear seat removal and both front OEM seats replaced with Recaro Speed V.

I’m super happy with this setup. I’m still experimenting with tires, but the overall package is working really well.

I made it to the Car Control Clinic up at Pacific Raceways on Friday. Considering all my previous track experience was in FWD and AWD cars with less power than my M2, I'm happy I started with the CCC instead of jumping right into HPDE. I definitely learned a few things.

The only downside was, just like virtually everything else in life for the last year, Covid protocols made things more challenging. Without having an instructor in the car, the feedback we received was mixed at times--there's only so much they could see from a distance. This is no criticism of the instructors. They were excellent and did the best they could given the situation.

I'm looking forward to getting back up there to do HPDE. But I admit I'm weighing the option of going sooner and deal with the less optimal lead-follow format. Or wait until later when instructors are allowed back in cars so I can get more out of the experience.

Noticed that there will be three OG M2s on Friday. No M2C or M2CS.

I decided to drive my STI as it will be a wet track day. I'm not comfortable with the M2 yet in the wet. I've been spinning it a lot on wet autox days so far this year

Yes it is too bad that the forecast is for rain. Much more fun in the dry. Who would guess that April’s day would be 70 and sun and may would be 50s and rain.

I probably will be taking it easy on the track. I don’t want to spin out the M2.

Today turned out better than expected! Was pretty dry all day except for a few sprinkles here and there.

Hmm. Forgot to mention the other two M2s were LB and both owned by instructors.
