Likely keeping stock size (245/265) but upgrading to a stickier compound. Pleased with the spec and various reviews of Goodyear SC3 (Tyre Reviews loved them). The SC3's tread width (at same size) are one of the few tires which match or exceed MPSS footprint. I do not want to lose steering sharpness (sidewall stiffness) and I will be making a couple of other changes to improve steering feedback.

Any readers with experience on both of these tires?

Bipp's feedback on Continental ECF make them interesting but their sizing sucks. However, his link turned me onto Hoosier TrackAttack Pro. Web commentary makes me wonder if TA Pro has inflated UTQG at 200, as one reviewer puts them up against Goodyear SC3R's which carry a 100 UTQG rating. Regardless, the TA Pros get stellar reviews, have comparable tread width and are ridiculously light. Any one been on these new Hoosiers?

The SC3R is a 6+ year old compound at this point. Pretty sure it came out in 2018. It's "sort of" been replaced by the SuperSport / SuperSport RS but those seem to be in OEM sizes for 992 GT3RS, etc. Based on longevity and alleged terrifying moments when they are cold, I would probably suggest a Super 200 over them. 4 days vs 6 days on track is a 50% difference - effectively $300/day vs $450/day of consumables.

From feedback of TAP from people I've met at the track:
- Very quick. Definitely a contender among the current wave of Super 200s (Nankang CRS, RE71RS, A052).
- Very expensive.
- Doesn't last that long. Not in an A052 "will last multiple weekends but drop off after 3-4 laps" way, they seem to have far worse tread life than CRS or RE71RS. Maybe you can try getting them pre-cycled from the distributor?
- Very little tread on the tire. Like, 5/32" starting.
- Pretty uncomfortable for street driving, but that seems to come with the territory.

Anecdotally, here's a reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarTrackDay...k_pro/mbfqo07/

Ultimately, I would chalk all the Super 200s as "solidly not worth it" if you are street driving. They're too expensive, don't last long enough, will heat cycle if you look at them wrong, and need warmup before they give you what you're looking for. And after daily driving a set of CRS for about 4 months, I can confidently say that they ride like shit, and the ECF is the upper limit of my NVH tolerance.

The SC3, AD09, ECF, and Cup 2 in the realm of "trackable tires that might still last worth a damn on the road at the cost of possibly needing some heat in them and still suffering from heat cycling issues" are still worth giving a try to, but anything past that has an unique set of tradeoffs. The RE71RS suffers from some of the Super 200 problems (rough ride, tread life, cost) but at the very least, won't heat cycle out as badly from street driving - at least the autocrossers who get 100+ runs out of them can testify that they'll maintain some level of peak grip as they age.

tl;dr - stay away from Hoosier TAP, not worth it for street driving. also, seems like most of the reviews were from that manufacturer-hosted event at Thermal Club.

If you're dead set on trying a Super 200 for the street - the current "could be good, could be shit, might be the best, might be a scam" seems like it's the Vitour P1 which are available in your sizes. I haven't seen anyone run them in person due to the dubious nature of their initial release in the US (very shady guy being their original distributor), but now that it's been sorted out the online posts seem to indicate that people like them. Anyways, the following tire guide is great - but might need a slight grain of salt due to Grassroots Motorsports doing a lot of testing on a Miata.

We’ve assembled this chart to be a quick reference to choose the proper tire for the proper venue.

Autocross: Choose A or AA for warmup and B or better for time trial pace.
Time trials: Choose by time trial pace and wear.
Lapping days: Choose by heat tolerance and wear.
Street and track: Choose by heat tolerance, wear and wet weather performance.

Wow, thorough and informative. Need to give this a couple reads to digest all the good info you have shared. Thank you!

Edit: Forgot to add... yep, Hoosier TAP are removed from my tire option list.

And this is why I miss the old 71R. To me it was the closest to a real street tire, did everything so well, and yet murdered at the track. The RS just isn't the same tire.

Fantastic post dude!

I blame bipp for my having spent another night combing the internet for tire commentary/reviews (lol, right?!) and looking at tread size measurements on Tire Rack's website. Ha!

Narrowed my tire choice to the following two; SC3's in 245/265 or the RE71RS in 255/275.

Appreciate all the contributions to this thread. Also, after watching quite a few Tyre Review video comparisons, cannot believe I randomly find a Reddit comment from Jon, the Tyre Review host. A few months ago, he chimes in regarding SC3's for a BMW F80. The internet makes it feel like such a small world.

I've settled on ECS02s at 255/35 and 285/30. Running at ~33psi, I think that's going to be a good setup.
