Is PPF on Rear 1/4 panel in Fornt of Wheels Std at Delivery

Picked up my2020 AW M2C a couple of weeks ago and did not notice that their is PPF on the rear 1/4 panel on the lower buldge in front of the rear wheels.

Just noticed as the edges have gotten dirty.

Just covers the lower part of the buldge in front of the wheel openings on both sides

Question: Is this standard on all M2C OR is it an error that was not removed prior to delivery?

Do you have this plastic 12"x12" protective film on your cars?

Thanks.

Yep. I will also yellow a bit over time because of the glue used at the factory. Aftermarket solutions don't use a glue so no yellowing. Also a bit bigger so more protection. dirt on the edges is unfortunately unavoidable. It can be cleaned gently.

I feel if anyone takes their car into a shop to get ppf done on say just the front bumper and some hood/fender coverage they should have that shop remove the factory film and replace with a larger piece. The factory piece is what BMW determined as the bare minimum required to protect that area.

It's standard on every M2. Including the original 2016-2018 models.

Yep the edge catches dirt etc, cleans off easy .

It's in the right spot though, it's always catching grease blobs, tart spots, mud and cow s##t splodges.

Works well...

I actually told the PPF installer to install Xpel over the original PPF. Will that cause any issues down the road?

I assume the yellowing might happen to the original piece, but i do have Sunset Orange, so hopefully it's not too bad.

I replaced the stock PPF with Xpel. That yellowing was driving me nuts, especially on alpine white.

Standard, but I replaced it immediately with a bigger piece.

Yup, stock as others have mentioned. The PPF on the rear arches must've been defective on my car. It started to yellow within a month of ownership and had some pretty heavy scuff marks on it. The optical clarity on it was also pretty poor; made the paint look hazy under certain lighting. I had it removed and wrapped the entire rear quarter panel to A-pillar with Xpel Ultimate Plus.

As above, all of the F8X models (F80 M3, F82/3 M4, F87 M2) have factory PPF because the flared fenders (like 911s) are going to get hit with rocks. A lot. It's nice that BMW and other manufacturers think of this, but the PPF is too small for American roads. On the F80, the coverage is laughable. However, in Germany, no issues. I did European Delivery and in over 600 miles of driving, there were no chips outside the factory PPF. As soon as I returned home, chips. This is because in Germany the roads are so well maintained. In the cities the speed limit minimizes stone damage and the autobahns are spotless. So I immediately replaced the M3 piece with a much lager custom piece of Xpel while I was doing the front of the car.

I couldn't get an immediate appointment with my PPF guy after delivery of my M2C this week. I have an HS M2C and it is my first light-colored car in some time. After the drive from Phoenix to my home in Tucson I found the vertical edge of the OE PPF was quite dark. I couldn't get it all off with quick detailers or (after an on-line search) Q-tips and diluted rubbing alcohol.

My PPF went on today (will post about that soon), and my installer did a custom piece that covers most of rear front fender. As above, the best would be to wrap the whole fender, but this works because the vertical edge wraps around the fender edge behind the door. If you have an HS or AW M2, you WANT this done, trust me. I couldn't get the line of the PPF to show up in the picture, so I added a line to approximate the coverage.

Has this already been done? The seam from the OE PPF will be quite noticeable under the new Xpel, and there is no advantage to leaving the OE piece on. If you M2C is still incoming per your sig, I'd reconsider.

Yes, they have already installed the new PPF. The car has already been at the PPF detailer for a few days. I told them to just go ahead and install over the original piece, mainly because i didn't want them peeling it off and possibly damaging the paint. However, as everyone is saying, it is not a problematic process to remove the original piece.

I'm going to double check with them tomorrow to see if they did remove the original piece anyway. But if they haven't, then i will just have to leave it"doubled up" as I don't want them to remove the new PPF and do it again. If the old piece is noticeable under the new ppf, then I'm ok with that. I just don't want any annoying complications resulting from it.

I would not worry about the removal damaging the paint. The BMW piece has a lot of orange peel as well, whereas Suntek or Xpel do not.

FYI, I have had pieces layered on the rear quarters of my GT3 as the hips get blasted from the soft front tires. The installer cut smaller shark fin type pieces to place over the much larger pieces he installed beneath. It looks good and protects very well. I did this on my last car as well. All said, installing a smaller piece over a larger one, both of quality film, is not a bad idea. As you said above (even though the smaller piece is beneath) see how it looks. If it looks good now you can always redo later if it worsens.

My factory PPF did not yellow in 3 years and I had no reason to believe it would. It also looks much better (shape) than other "custom" solution.

On my first drive home I already got a rock chip 2 inches above the stock PPF, which is a high risk area on the wider hips. I had the installer remove the original and put a custom piece up to the seam extending to tail light.

Ok thanks. I just texted them to see if they actually layered over the OEM piece. Just waiting for their reply.

In the meantime, good to know that on your gt3 you did some PPF layering and it worked out.
