Downloaded to browse it.

I had mine coded by a fellow member thru the cable.

But this seems nice!

Looks interesting but no updates since original release in October and no reviews. Proceed with caution. Someone has to be first but $30 is pretty high for something with no history. I'll stick with the Carly app that I've been using for years now.

Looks interesting. The BimmerLink app also shoes iPhone control of exhaust flaps. Who's gonna be the giuinea pig? I do believe this is the future way to code just not sure I want to be on the cutting (bleeding) edge of the technology

Pyrat: can you tell us more about your experience with Carly?

I exchanged email with the developer, asking about F87 M2 compatibility and whether he recommends the older Vgate iCar 2 (Wi-Fi) or the newer iCar 3 (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth). He was prompt and communicates well in English:

"The M2 is supported since basically it is just normal F22 ;-) I would recommend the iCar 2, since it has an switch to put it on after it went into sleep mode. The iCar 3 does not have this button and has to be unplugged and plugged back in to be switched on again."

Ordered the iCar 2 and will try it tomorrow. If it works as advertised, this will probably start putting a few hobby coders out of business. If it doesn't, well... YOLO

Well, update time. I purchased the iCar 2 and used the BimmerCode app to code my 2017 M2. It's a mixed bag, but mostly positive.

The NBT Evo was coded without issue. The Front Electronic Module gave a scary error message inside the app while writing the code to the module, but a recovery process resolved the issue. The second attempt at coding the Front Electronic Module worked fine.

All in all, incredibly easy to use app with promising results.

Lastly, I coded my 2014 F31 328i wagon with the app and had no errors.

Being new to this I wish it included a detailed description of each option.

It looks like I could use this to code my M2 and 328i but not the X6.

Does the iCar come with everything needed to connect with the car? Can you share a link to where you purchased it?

Thanks, I would love to do this but am a little nervous.

The iCar 2 is available for $18.50 on Amazon. That's the lowest price I could find with free shipping for Prime members.

The BimmerCode app is incredible, really. Aside from a couple of scary error messages that were easily overcome with a bult-in recovery process, no issues at all. The developer is very responsive, too. He says an updated release is due soon.

I would recommend giving it a try if you're comfortable playing with these kinds of tools. If not, wait a month or two for the early adopters among us to work out all of the kinks and then code away.

Thanks. It definitely seems a less expensive alternative to Carly that Pyrat mentioned. Although it looks like Carly will also code my X6. As more people use these it will be interesting to hear comparisons of the two.

Will BimmerCode code off the legal disclaimer in a MY 17 M2? My understanding is Carly won't (not compatible with iDrive 5.0).

Im going to also test it tonight.

The errors you got when coding FRM is normal. They clear out once the car is turned on and off. Same happens with esys.

The main reason why I was going to test is that with this app you can code Video in motion on ID5. Ill be trying this tonight also.

This is very good news. I already have the icar2 so may well play on the wife's M235 before my M2 is delivered next week.

Thanks everyone.

The developer has given me a test build of the next release. It's perfect.

That's amazing news. Do you have a list of all the possible coding with the new build? May go this route over esys

I do. The new version has a "Pro Mode" with specific codes, values can be altered for each, and it supports every module plus ASD, NBT, etc. Unfortunately I don't think I have permission to share any details, but it's perfectly functional, faster and the user interface is prettier now. Should be available soon.

Well that's a quality teaser...any indication how long the wait will be for more detail?

I picked up the V gate OBD 2 module yesterday and was about to click an app...now this

Really trading the value props for Carly, bimmercode/bimmerlink, or dashcommand for a way to do a little customization/maintenance support. Don't want/need to buy all of them.

Really though, thanks again for jumping into this and sharing..
Rob

The number of supported vehicles is expanding. In the original 1.0 release, the F87 was not explicitly supported. However, when I asked the developer he said that it'll work because it's basically the same as an F22.

The F87 will be explicitly supported by the forthcoming update. As previously mentioned, the development version I'm using already works perfectly.
