After seeing these pictures I really don't like the fender bulges on the M2, instead of looking muscular and agressive I think it looks "fat". Same applies for the M4, the rear looks fat instead of muscular imo.

You could say I'm totally biased and I am because I own a 1M, but one of the big reasons I bought it was because of the big fender flares which I liked alot from the beggining and I think they look miles better than the ones in the M2, but of course everyone has their own taste. Imo BMW could have done a better job, it's not looking good specially when side by side with the e46 M3 posted by the OP, that may well be the M2 worst angle and the one that I didn't notice before. Anything else is good, great little car I'm sure.

Couple things I'm going to say here:

First off, that picture of the M2 is an absolutely horrid picture to show the design of the rear arches. The reflections are completely blocking any vision of the actual design.

Also, in person, the design really works with what the rest of the car has going on. The 1M flares really suite that car well, but in person, its obvious that the M2 pulls off what it's trying to do very well. My point is, don't judge it from this picture because it's a terrible representation of what the M2 has going for it. However, you are right in saying that they're not like the 1M. But they are unquestionably more sculpted than the ones on the F82. They have a sweet design, seeing it in person really helps.

Agree. My quick iphone pics do it no justice. It is much better, and muscular in person. I felt the same way about the M4 till I seen one up close.

I get all the "OMG E46 best BMW evur" nostalgia.

But I hope I'm not the only one who thinks the M2 looks WAY better.

I disagree. I think the M2 is a good looking car, but it's not going to touch the E46 M3. As a matter of fact, there are not many cars on the road that I will say look better than it (and the E39 M5).

Eh, I just don't get it. Looks very "meh" to me.

Personal preferences aside, I don't see how you can claim the M2 looks WAY better. The e46 has the ability to straddle a classy, yet undeniably brawny look that hasn't been matched to date. Its proportions are better. Given the choice though I would still get the M2. But I think the e46 looks more pleasing to the eyes. It's more graceful. The M2 doesn't have that grace and it has nothing to do with design cues being more aggressive. A Pagani looks bananas and manages grace.

I'm not claiming it looks better, I'm just saying to my eyes it looks better. I really like the e46, but I much more appreciate the aggressiveness of the new designs over the older ones. Just the way I see it.

Well you're hardly the most unbias person when it comes to the M2

What's amazing about the E46 and E39s is that there are just no bad angles, no matter where you are looking from. I'm not saying they would be my first choice when it comes to M cars, but if we are talking about looks alone, they are borderline unbeatable. And think that these cars were designed over 15 years ago and still look this amazing is quite a testament. Like I said, I like the M2, but there are plenty of weird angles, and the fangs are not for everyone.

You said WAY better though. I mean I know you really like the M2 but it's not way better in my opinion.

I mean yeah, put an M2 in there under the same conditions and I'm sure it will look just as bad ass. I'm not saying those care aren't beautiful, they clearly are. Just saying I don't find myself as nostalgic over those cars as others on here.

Agreed with W/// and Artemis. The E46 wins. No angle on these cars is bad. None. Kein.

Also, the sound.

Awesome videos. Though... He should explore the higher rpm range more! Don't know if I heard it go over 6000rpm more than once!
