M2 Comp vs 997.1 Turbo

I've had my M2 Comp for half a year now and put 15k miles on it and love it but ever since I was a kid I always dreamed about getting a Porsche and that itch isn't going away. I'm really having a mental battle to not look at 997 turbos as that's always been my dream car as the M2 is so good at everything. So question any one have experience with them? I've seen posts from a while ago saying the M2 was a better daily and more capable on the street while the turbo was much more engaging but hard to push on the street. I'm specifically talking manuals and I would/do track them.

If you want to go 997 then go with a .2. 997 is the pinnacle of steering quality, decently modern electronics, and tbh they are fantastic cars. Besides being ten years old they are the best of the best.

Hard to compare. M2C is much more modern. 997.1 TT is a classic. If it's your only car I'd say M2C if it's a weekend toy I'd go 997 TT.

Yeah I think I'll hold off on it until next year or so. So far I'm having a great time dailying the M2 sometimes I just need to drive it to remind me why I shouldn't get rid of it.

I would prefer to keep a BMW coupe and a 911 of some sort in the garage. They do different jobs. The M2 is a better daily driver than a 997 of any variety.

Not accounting age. Depending on options on the 911, it can make a much more comfortable and useable DD.

As far as "usable DD" I'd think the m2's back seat, trunk, more discreet looks, lower maintenance costs would make it a better daily. The 911 is the perfect weekend car though.

I think you kind of missed the boat on that one. They used to be 60-70k, but are now much more than that due to the hot market. A Speed Yellow .1TT is one of my dream cars, but I think I'll just admire from the sideline.

I actually test drove a 997.1 turbo manual a week after making this post. To a point I might have to agree with never meet your heros. The car was awesome but I really missed the rwd run around of the M2C. My cars pretty modded so compared to a stock turbo, my shifting, speed, and suspension feeling wasn't that crazy off. I did have a chance to drive a Deman's GT4.5 and I have a new dream to add on. The M2C still is a keeper for a very long time, I'd be hard pressed to find a more fun daily than it for under 6 figures. Thanks for all the input guys as well.

I owned a 2006 997.1 Turbo MT transmission during 2 years. It was a great car but it had 55k miles and I spend a lot, time and money solving different small issues. I also was always scared of damaging that usd 40k Mezger race breed engine. The engine was quite noisy and sometimes it did not make me very confident. I finally decided to sell it and now I got a almost new M2 F87 LCi. I love it and find it much more practical. I think it´s one of the most beautifull bmw ever made, similar tu E46 M3 fantastic design. I dont regret selling my 997 turbo, not at all.

This can be true in not meeting your heroes but with 911s I feel you need to try a few of the same model to draw and accurate conclusion on it. The spec and maintenance can make a huge difference in overall feel to the point where you could drive one, dislike it and love another. Also stay very open minded when looking, I started my search a year ago roughly and just bought one last week and I was never even considering the one I ended up getting.

Strongly agree with the above. I was also not blown away by the first few 911 I drove. I drove several different 997.2 and 991.1 to find the right car and spec. It really does make quite a difference the spec and upkeep. Any 997 generation car is a minimum of 10 years old this year so something on 10 year old suspension with maybe/maybe not decent alignment would have a wide range of results.

I drove a 997.2 C2S when it was brand new and I would take that over any F87 I think. Much more of a raw experience and the steering is at another level. However, yeah, they are very old cars now.

Well funny thing to add to this thread. Ended up actually purchasing a 718 Cayman GT4 and am currently waiting for it to come in. Turbo just wasn't the move for me but that NA flat 6 is something else.

after moving myself from a M2C to a GTS 4.0 I think you'll probably be pretty happy overall

the 4.0 is an amazing engine

you might just find though that you'll miss the playfulness of the M2C's handling as compared to the clinical precision of the porsche

but maybe not since you are getting a GT4 as opposed to a GTS, interested to hear how it lands for you

Before I bought my M2C, I was searching for a 997 coupe but I got tired of seeing prices rising on cars of lower quality. I owned a 997.2 TT (PTS Meissen Blue, no less!) but it was PDK and just didn't do it for me on the street (and I have no interest tracking a TT; much prefer NA for the track).

I am also fortunate to have a 981 GT4.
