Been reading up, but still wanted to ask you- as far as we know the M2 CSL is still dead?

Thanks in advance!

That's what I thought, and I was never really a fan of mineral white either.

For the record: in the past I pointed out that two Y-spoke forged 19" 788M wheels showed up in the pre-series M2 Competition VIN build sheets:
  • 2QT: frequently in USA-spec VINs, rare in EURO-spec VINs:
    • English VIN description: 19"m Law.ý-sp.788 M For. Mt.
    • German VIN description: 19"m Lmr Y-sp.788 M Ge. Mb

  • 29U: frequently in EURO-spec VINs, rare in USA-spec VINs:
    • English VIN description: 19"m Law.ý-sp.788m For.mt.black
    • German VIN description: 19"m Lmr Y-sp.788m Ge. Mb Schwarz
Deciphering:
  • LMR = Leichtmetallräder = leight(weight) metal alloys/wheels
  • Y-sp. = Y-Speicher = Y-spoke
  • Ge. = geschmiedet = For. = forged
  • Mb = Mischbereifung = Mt. = mixed tires (front and rear: different tire size)
  • Schwarz = black
Conclusion: BMW option code '29U' 788M wheels = all black finish, unlike BMW option code '2QT' 788M wheels.

Below: 788M wheel with option code '29U':

Based on all I’ve seen on this post, I photoshoped a picture of an regular M2. This is what the M2 Competition will roughly look like I think.

Are you suggesting a decease in 2017 ?

2074 A.D. and the F87 M2 CSL gets a sobering briefing...
  • Med Tech: How are we today ?
  • Ripley: Terrible.
  • Med Tech: Well, better than yesterday at least.
  • Ripley: Where am I ?
  • Med Tech: You're safe. You're at Gateway Station, been here a couple of days. You were pretty groggy at first, but now you're OK. Looks like you've got a visitor.
  • Ripley: Jonesy. Come here ! Hey, come here. How are you, you stupid cat ? How are you ? Where have you been ?
  • Burke: I guess you two have met, huh ? I'm Burke. Carter Burke. I work for the company. But don't let that fool you. I'm really an OK guy. I'm glad to see you're feeling a little better. They tell me that all the weakness and disorientation should pass soon. It's just natural side effects of such an unusually long hypersleep, or something like that...
  • Ripley: What do you mean ? How long was I out there ?
  • Burke: Has no one discussed this with you yet ?
  • Ripley: No, but, I mean, I don't recognize this place.
  • Burke: No, I know. Uh... OK. It's just that, uh, this might be a shock to you. It's longer...
  • Ripley: How Long ? Please.
  • Burke: 57 years.
  • Ripley: What ?!
  • Burke: That's the thing. You were out there for 57 years. What happened was, you had drifted right through the core systems, and it's really just blind luck that a deep-salvage team found you when they did. It's one in a thousand, really. I think you're damn lucky to be alive, kiddo. You could be floating out there forever. ... Uh, you're OK ?

Good effort.

I am just not a fan with where they're going with the kidneys (on the M2 Comp and generally speaking) - it's like those are the first thing my eyes are drawn to, and that's not a good thing IMO.

Your render still features the pre-LCI headlights.

Does that mean that the 788M wheels will be available in black and silver?

Two different finishes, one of those getting a black finish ('29U'). "Black" would normally mean all black, but could also mean bi-color (alike the "black" 437M wheels sporting the current M2 and forthcoming M2 Competition: bi-color). The finish of the other one ('2QT') is unknown, but likely silver. In a perfect world those would get an 'Orbit Grey' finish (see M4 CS) instead of silver. In a confusing world those would get 'Acid Orange accents' (M4 GTS).

Alternative explanation: same wheel finish, but different tires: for example Michelin Pilot Sport 4S versus Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires ?

Status quo of what's said before. Till further notice, let's call it 'hibernation':

Maybe I should do a realistic render of the upcoming Competition ;-)

Please do but a couple of changes that you can incorporate:
1, Make the lower large/central intake a little more flatter/straighter and not curved.
2, The 3 slats in the bottom a little less wider.
3, The outer too ends of the grilles a little more like how the leaked picture looks.

That will make it very realistic indeed.😁

I think there are more differences than that ;-)
