Was on several waiting lists but finally got a deal with the local dealer who has no list and offered me their next car for MSRP.
Signed the order and placed deposit May 7, 2016
Production order number assigned for week 36 (Labor Day week) June 21, 2016
Will report more as things progress

  • 06/19/2016 - Got jealous that other people were getting cars already.
  • 06/20/2016 - Called/Emailed/Live chatted tons of dealers in the southeast.
  • 06/24/2016 - Got an available allocation for Week 34 production at Texas dealer.
  • 07/21/2016 - Was able to add production number to MyBMW.
  • 08/05/2016 - Got text from dealer telling me car entered production. Call to BMW Genius confirmed I entered production 7am this morning. Automated number still says no confirmed production date, MyBMW still just shows 'Order Documented'. BMW Genius says date I should finish production is 08/22 which falls in the week 34 production week I was originally given.
  • 08/06/2016 - MyBMW shows vehicle in stage "01 - Production begins", Automated number says "Your vehicle is in production the estimated completion date is August 24, 2016.". dealerspeed says 150
  • 08/17/2016 - Automated order status number reports estimated completion date has been moved to August 23, 2016.
  • 08/23/2016 - Vehicle completed production, notified by dealer. MyBMW and Automated number are not updated.
  • 08/25/2016 - MyBMW updated with production ended status. Automated phone number is still reporting 'vehicle is in production'
  • 08/27/2016 - Vehicle arrived at port per BMW Genius. Automated number reports 'vehicle is in transit to port'.
  • 09/09/2016 - Notified by SA that 'vehicle is in transit to final vpc' in galveston.
  • 09/23/2016 - Car arrives at Galveston port.
  • [B]09/24/2016/[B] - Car arrives at VPC. At this point my SA had more accurate information than BMW genius or the website/automated number. Maybe due to experience with actual timelines.
  • 09/30/2016 - Car arrives at dealer.
  • 09/30/2016 - Got a paint chip on front bumper near where parking sensor would go during 5 hour return trip from dealer.
  • 09/30/2016 - Deleted my 'todo mods' list I've been creating during the 3 month wait, car is perfect as is.

My production week is week 31 and I contacted genius and they told me that the car is scheduled to finish production on August 2nd, however they have no VIN# yet and they do not have any statuses on where the car is in production, other than the fact that it is in production. Has anyone else had similar experiences in terms of lack of detailed information?

I'm in the exact same boat, with the same scheduled completion date. I'm not too worried about the lack of updates. Just excited to hear when it is completed.

@M_Driver4life

you both should have Vin's by now, Aug 2nd is next week. Call BMW 800-831-1117 and have them track the car and ask for the VIN#

Sweet! Thanks for the suggestion. I have an assigned VIN. She did state that the car was in 'Engineering Release', or something along those lines, and couldn't speculate if it was a diff issue or not. Hopefully not...

I wonder if that's a status somewhere in the 160's I'm not sure what that means. Did they tell you a scheduled end date?

She stated an 8/3 completion date. I'll call back Friday to make sure progress has been made. At this point the anticipation has me wanting to fly to Germany and help assemble to speed it along.

Is the screenshot you shared from a CA's screen or is there some, much cooler, tracking system than the one I see logging into My BMW?

Much cooler tracking system, jk, it's the CA screen.

My 335i that I have now had me that way! I kept calling daily, the anticipation was killing me! The wait for that was around 3 months. This time I told myself it will take about a year so I am mentally prepared now and it's getting here a lot sooner than expected.

I called and was told that a VIN# is assigned however she doesn't know where in the production cycle the car currently is. I have an estimated completion date of 8/2. I really hope that there is no hold up in the car, because according to the woman on the phone she said the car hasn't even gone to the paint shop yet.

Looks like my car is literally behind your's and for some reason my updates are lagging a bit.

EDIT: corrected my dates, was reading the wrong part of the email.

I get my updates from my CA which is a friend of mine from childhood. He is on vacation now so I am back to relying on the website.
