The bottom line is to go to big dealers who get more allocations... Small dealers with limited allocation will try to maximize their profit from available allocation

It's not limited production people!!

Even the GT4 production numbers were ramped up after initial production, don't be fooled folks!

Just buy a M4 instead. It's more exclusive and a better car.

A dealer here in Mass. told me they take ED MSRP for a September pickup.

Yeah, right.

Just go into any BMW Hendrick Automotive Group dealer, they never charge over MSRP. There's one in Pleasanton.

--------

2 allocation slots for the new m2 coupe.

With projected delivery in about 3-4 months.

Price will be $10,000.00 over the MSRP.

Need a $5000.00 deposit to get the order placed.

BS with Capital Letters

As a BMW professional and fan, this is silly and shortsighted. The M2 is about bringing customers in to the brand not exclusion from it,

The profit opportunity is with the GTS and accessories and greater volumes as the car becomes a cult car in the longer term.

Local BMW dealer here is supposedly asking $10,000 over sticker for their first few allocations. Story goes their current market president decided this based on the 1M (They didn't ask all the beans on that one and I guess they have regrets LOL) I'd almost say they'll be eating that one, but there's a few brainwashed fanatics in DFW that will do it. What's kind of sad about this is they are usually very reasonable to deal with and I've gotten amazing/awesome/incredible deals on my 2015 F80 and my 2016 F85. Their service dept. also treats me very well, so it's just mind boggling why they sell out and turn off customers for a brief opportunity to price gouge.

But paying over list for this car is stupid. People willing to do so are even more stupid. These stupid people are why dealers are even bold enough to try. It's easy to be mad at the dealers but they're just taking the opportunity these car nuts have left themselves exposed to. They know some stupid fan boy dressed head to toe in M merchandise will sign it without flinching and still give them a perfect score on the survey.

Will laugh my ass off when BMW cranks these suckers out so they can stay on top in volume again.

Both good points. Maybe swap "foolish" for "stupid". BMW not only builds a car for every possible segment and niche, they'll also build enough of them. Although, I don't expect to see 10 M2's on every lot with "priced to sell" stickers all over...

Heck, Albert Biermann is in a conference room somewhere right now explaining how the "N2" will offer higher performance and a better value. It'll take away market share! BMW can't allow that by not building enough cars, now can they?

Always a shame seeing this kind of price-gouging. I can see why people think they should do it (greed?), but it really just gives that dealership a bad name, especially if they were to do it to an existing customer.

Where I work we never charge over MSRP for any car. Not the first M3s or M4s, not the first i8s, not the M6 Comp Edition, not the first M2s, and not even the M4 GTS. More loyal customers are always, ALWAYS worth more to a dealership than fewer one-time shoppers. I'm not saying this to advertise or anything as I'm not a salesperson, but you really just have to think long-term with things like this. Word spreads...

Value is only perceived, not an absolute measurement.

On a side note, go try and find a Ford Mustang GT350 for sticker. Or 5k over. Lol
My local dealer does 5k over for the GT350. I still told them to shove it.

It seems that if you want a car sometime this year, you'd be wrong. It's looking very limited. Whether thats by design or happenstance remains to be seen.

I whole heartedly disagree. Out of the 4 dealers around my area, they re projecting ONLY 14 cars (not inc HEAs). I know Cleveland isn't as populated as east coast or west coast cities. But if the Cleveland area only has @14 cars, I can assure you ANY TOWN USA will have much less. Maybe 1 per store IF they even get a car. Also, the dealers I am working are wanting to charge out-of-towners more that the locals.

On one hand, I would love for the the M2 to be 1M limited, who wouldn't? I'd love to drive a car for a few years and not lose value. The other, I want everyone to get cars and ENJOY them. This car seems to be made for us enthusiasts. I hope this car turns on many new people to the brand. I cannot afford a P-Car b/c the car has to be my DD. I'd love a cayman S, but I don't think I can DD it. seemed to cramped for everyday livability. I suspect others could be in this boat as well.

Burdick BMW

Burdick BMW (315-459-6000) has one allocated M2 left in Alpine White and from a dealership perspective will be selling at MSRP (not a dollar above) and just need a 5k deposit to guarantee your order. Ask for Alex and he will gladly assist you with your purchase.

Price gouging on a 'luxury" product?

I don't think so.

Price gouging is when someone uses predatory pricing on an item you need, like food or fuel.

This is the market at work. It will tell us if these dealers employed the correct strategy.

Dealers that are asking 5k, 10k, etc over MSRP are targeting a different demographic than the bargain seekers on this forum. I say that jokingly but they are obviously targeting a different audience. Once those people who can't wait for prices to come down or have to have it ASAP have gotten their M2s, then the dealers will reduce pricing accordingly. Don't sweat it. Its all about supply and demand anyways and eventually supply will catchup with demand.

I need BMW to really crank these things out over the next few years. The M2 is going be my version of the e36 when they become nasty cheap in 10 years. It will be the tool that I use live out my dreams of racing glory in BMWCCA Club Racing.

I've also spoken with a couple dealers in the Bay Area who are charging above MSRP for the first few cars and then MSRP first come first serve after that. I'll wait it out.

The maintenance on that car related to an E36 is like comparing a Ferrari to a Honda.

I came in looking to order and M2 this past Dec. But after comparing the lack of M settings (the same as my Z4 335iS), the 3500# weight, and the cost with markups I left with an M4 on order.
