Paint protection Film Level 1
This is an option on an M2 I'm looking at. No big deal but wondering what that is?
Thanks |

Paint protection film is a small layer of plastic going over your paint. It prevents some paint chips and such.

This is showing at a $215 option on the car from factory. I cant imagine its a full body covering. I did a google search, and it seems to indicate that level 1 is around door handles and by the trunk over the bumper. This wasn't specific to the M2 so wanted to ask you guys who maybe have this.

If you're interested, I would do it third party and negotiate a price. |

I went with xpel for my M2, but the 5er has the level 1 ppf. If I recall it covers the door cups, door edges, and rear luggage area for the trunk and nothing else. Not really worth it unless you have a garage wall near your doors or people are in the habit for dragging stuff out of your trunk.

IE: lvl 1 PPF covers something while level 2 PPF covers more. Either way dealership is a rip off for this job. |

This must be a "dealer-installed option." BMW doesn't offer additional PPF as a factory option. The M2C comes from the factory with a small piece of PPF ahead of each rear wheel to protect those hips from stone chips.. I strongly recommend replacing those pieces with much larger ones, as the factory PPF is too small for the carnage that US roads may inflict upon our paint.
I would skip the dealer option and find the best PPF installer in your area. The most favored PPF brands currently are Xpel and SunTek. Both companies have good products; it is the skill of the installer that makes the difference. If you decide to do PPF, at a minimum you will want the front 1/3 of the hood, the front bumper, the mirror caps and (as above) a larger piece over the rear fenders. This will cost approximately $1K.

Door cup, door edges, top of the rear bumper where the trunk opening is at. As I was getting 2/3 of my car wrapped in Xpel, I got rid of the door edges. Looked terrible to me. |
