I used to drive my 2002 M3 and 2012 335is fairly often with DSC off. Is there a noticeable difference in fun factor/power going from MDM to DSC off in M2C. Is it worth the additional risk? I am going to give it a (careful) try tomorrow.

It's worth the additional risk if you have experience with it

If you have little to no experience with knowing how the car will behave its in your best interest to start very slow, on roads you know very well

Not to sound too dramatic but I personally witness a vehicle with the stability control off; spin around a turn, crash into a house, causing the motor to fly out a half a block away. The driver left in a body bag.

Keep the DSC on or at least MDM enabled when you're driving on public streets and reserve the 'Tim YoYo' setting for the track or an open airstrip...

Newbie question here. Does the sports+ mode enable MDM as well, or is the stability control setting completely independent of the driving modes (not including the M presets of course)?

You have three separate adjustments available -- they are set independently of each other:

STEERING: comfort, sport or sport+

THROTTLE RESPONSE: efficient, sport or sport+

DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL: DSC on/off, MDM on/off

Hit DSC button briefly to turn on MDM or hold DSC for 10 seconds to turn dynamic stability control off.

After I take some performance driving courses (later this year, most likely) and have some roads that are amenable to it, that may change. But for now, one of my favorite (curvy) roads to drive has almost zero shoulder and has potential oncoming traffic. There's no way I'm risking it out there with so much at stake.

In fact, I was out there this weekend. Too much congestion, so I just kept it slow. Sometimes you can get out there and you'll see another car once every few miles, and other times it's once every few seconds. Yesterday was the latter. And I saw a Honda Civic come flying around the corner towards my lane of traffic, lost control and went wide, had to counter-steer to save it and nearly had a head-on collision with the car about 50 meters in front of me. I was far enough back that I could see it coming the whole way, and luckily nothing came of it, but on a road like that having DSC off in a car this powerful just seems like begging for trouble.

When I get to a track or a wide open place with no pedestrians or other traffic things will change.

If you are talking about turning all stability control off, it can be loads of fun right up until your wrap your car around a light pole.

MDM is perfect for dry warm days. It is less intrusive than previous models and still saves you in a pinch. DSC on for cold and wet weather. DSC off is OK for experienced drivers on back roads that you know very well or the track.

Partially incorrect. Throttle response to sport plus enables MDM by default. If it is set as an M button, you must press twice to confirm.
I drive in mdm almost all the time. But note, traction control is VERY limited in MDM mode. The car will really get sideways before it intervenes.

Respectfully disagree that sport+ turns on MDM. There is a distinct difference with sport+ and MDM on/off. Also, the gauge cluster doesn't reflect show MDM being on when I go into sport+, but if you push the stability button it'll turn on the squiggly car lamp (technical term) and show MDM in the cluster.

I also can't find any reference in the owner's manual (well, the electronic one I have access to at the moment) that MDM is turned on along with sport+. If it somehow is I'd be a bit disappointed as that was my favorite mode during my test drive and what I'd use in one of the m modes/buttons. I'd rather enable MDM on it's own where the road/conditions allow.
