I just saw this too. I think that they are right and for most people it is a better value.

It's roughly $10k less for most of the same performance and features. Better fuel economy too. That's "value" right?

If you're a car enthusiast, I think it's a different story because the engine, brakes, wheels, & suspension upgrades would easily make up the price difference. Then there are the looks and other intangibles of owning an M car.

Agreed. I like these guys for the most part but I was pretty annoyed at their M2C vs Tesla Model 3 video.

For most people the M240i is a perfect car. For an enthusiast, if you have the money, just get the M2 imo

Great, objective review; they highlighted the vehicle's merits without gushing over the fact that BMW didn't christen it an official M car.

The 240i is not a bad vehicle and it's certainly not lacking on power; there is a video below of it pulling ahead of the V8 M3 and the S55 M4, with just a JB4 piggyback.

The only mechanical difference that the real M cars have over the 240i is the torque-vectoring LSD, with is the crown-jewel of all M vehicles and is solely responsible for majority of the handling advantage.

I believe they summarized it properly; the M2C is the one that you want but the M240i is the one you need.

I'm a cheap sob, shop for home needs@ Costco, use coupons and fly/travel on points but I will overpay for my fun car without hesitation

If I really wanted a budget toy car it would've been the new Miata, improved for 2019, 1/2 the price as or beloved M2

Note: I'm aware they are apples and oranges but the fun could be had @ $30k'ish

Owned both.

M240i is a great car, true sleeper. But the comparison with the M2 starts and ends on drag speed performance.

Completely different driving experience, different styling and bypasser perception.

A bone stock M240i is a really really bland car. A bone stock M2 is still special.

Imagine a stage 2 S55 vs that same car... that's not even a race. Or the E85 map. Then you factor in the the exterior looks, seats, motor, transmission, suspension components. Def worth it IMO

This is my feeling and the reason why I didn't get the 240. It's super bland and I really don't care for its looks.

toyota corolla would be a much better "value" still but that's not why or how we buy these cars. that video totally misses the point.

The M2C is already a performance bargain at its current MSRP.

You can improve the M240i aesthetics with some decent set of wheels and some M-Performance exterior and interior accessories but then you are pretty much bridging the gap with new M2 money

I think on the used market it's a really good bargain, more so with adaptive suspensions. New and fully specced out, nah.

I agree with them for the most part, if I couldn't afford an m2 comp, or I was less into sports cars the M240i seems like a really great value.

But I can and I am, so I will have the m2c thanks.

The m240i is the 3 pedal Supra that doesn't exist.

When I was told the new Supra was auto only and $115kNZD, I simply responded to TNZ that I could buy a 6MT M240i for $90kNZD (which is where the Supra should be priced) or a 6MT M2C for $125k NZD.

YouTube video review idea for someone M240i vs Supra.
It's the same car, with a backseat and a manual option, for less money; and without the gonzo styling.

As others have said, if I wasn't into cars I'd be all over the M240i. But I definitely see the enough value in the M2C betterment to justify it.

For an apples to apples comparison, it
Is not. The comparison is about two things that perform similar with one having a lower price and thus being a better value.

Not a great deal of fun can be had with 240 HP, on the flip side, you can orgasm with 400 HP.

I wouldn't say "better" value, but both are incredible values for what you get. I went with the M240i because I was more comfortable with the price point and knew the money saved would go towards bucket seats, a tow vehicle, trailer, etc. The M2 is a better track weapon out of the box, but there are so many other costs involved with taking your car on track that I had to factor this in when making my decision. I can always trade in the M240i later on down the road if need be. That being said, if I was a millionaire, I'd have the M2 Competition.. or a couple of them. A 6-speed for daily driving and DCT for track.

Sure, probably a better value for most. Certainly has enough power for street use. Problem is, we know the M2 exists...

The exact same discussion can be had with any of the M-performance variants (M550i, etc.) and the M-tech version before them (E39 540i with the M-package, etc.). Nothing has changed; BMW just slapped an M badge on the back of the highest performing "regular" car in the series.

M2C is a different car.

It is way more stiff and taut in handling.

Even at low speeds the car is so much fun to throw around tight corners.

There's no way I'm going to pick a 240i over an M2C, of course I'm an enthusiast.

I agree them as far as daily performance ..

But ..M2C is just way better looking car to me, with stance + extra wide wheels...and the Original M2 even more so with the better looking front end and no low hanging muffler.
