Proxes RR 295/30/19 on all 4 corners
Hello,
I'm considering tracking my M2C with Proxes RR 295/30/19 on all 4 corners, oem's rims. Yesterday I installed my old 295/30/19 Hoosier R7 on the front rims and the tire did not rub. Any suggestions? |

295 is way too wide for 9" front rim. Your sidewalls will flex too much. 275 is the widest tire manufactures recommend for a 9" rim, and "measured" or optimal is 255.

Hoosiers are seriously stuffable on narrow wheels...no idea about the Toyos.
Here's a look at 295/30-18 on 8.5" and 315/30-18 on 9.5" wheels. Rich had great success autocrossing in former A-stock class with his setup before the switchover to street tires.

I assume the sidewalls will be stiff enough to stick them on such narrow rims, but I don’t know. I’ve seen some 911s blow out the outside rear sidewalls on Toyo’s on stock rims. Those guys were lucky not not put their cars in the wall.
Also, feasibility and performance are two different things. While I haven’t tried this setup, I’ve noted that turn in and transitions suffer if you go past 255/265 on a 9” rim. I’d imagine it’d be terrible with a 295 on a 9” rim on a track with high speed corners, which is much different than autox. |

The main reason of using Proxxes RR tires is to see how many track days will they last. My Hoosier's last 2 tracks days at max and I want to try something different

I haven’t tried RR’s, but tried several of the R comps and decided to just stick with 71R’s for my own personal grip vs longevity/cost balance. You can run 265/35 & 305/30 on the stock suspension and wheels with the 71R. |

That’s right. The Hoosiers don’t last and I can’t fit 295 up front with lowered suspension, so the 71R is next fastest 19” option. Can get about 10-12hrs on them.

Those tires are way pooched, get a wider wheel or a narrower tire. We used to stuff 285/30/18 A6's on Mazda RX-8 stock 18x8 wheels for B stock autocross. They are a pain to mount but they worked.

Changing the subject, i was browsing today on eBay and found some used Pirelli slicks, I will try those tires on a future track day. Want to see how long they last but I imagine they would be equal or worst that the Hoosier R7 |

are we sure about that? 265/30 Hankook ventus evo in the front didn't clear in my M2C, hit the front plastic slightly. I have 285/35 in the back and plenty of space for wider tire. Just researching for my autocross/set up.

The Trofeo and R7s were on 19x9.5 ET33 VMR 710FF’s with -3.1 deg camber and dropped 1/2” on Dinan springs, no issues. I did need 3mm spacers for the R7’s to clear the suspension. On stock wheels, the height of the 4S’s rubbed the fender liner slightly under compression when they were new. Between wearing down a little bit of the liner & tire, the 265/35s are fine now. That said, I’ll probably go back with 255/35 4S on the stock wheel, as I don’t like the turn in of a 265 on a 9” wheel. |

Apex thinks you can fit this on their upcoming 19x10.5 ET40 EC-7 wheel, but I think it’ll be really damn tight on a lowered car under compression without running excessive rear camber (> -2.0). |

I have stock suspensison, with GC camber plates and AP front brakes. I have raced an early 911 for many years and am used to tail happiness, but have decided to quit the racing and just do some track events each year until the bug goes away. I am circling the rabbit hole, and very tempted to dive in head first, but I think I will back off and just do what needs to be done to enjoy the M2. I have been using the stock brakes (with race pads and fluid), turned them dark green and went with the AP. Have not installed the AP's yet but that's next. Any advice for the offsets and TPM's? Thanks |

I don't know all their offset options for this wheel, but I went +33 in the front and +45 in the back. I needed a 3mm spacer for R7's to clear in the front, but other tires were fine. The +45 in the rear lets the wheel/tire sit in enough to clear the rear fender. Note, once you start pushing 265 and up in the front and 295 and up in the rear, everything gets tight and your specific suspension and alignment settings will impact clearances. You should be OK, tho. A lot of track guys don't run TPMS, but I do. It's a huge benefit to keep tire temps/pressures up on the idrive screen while on track so you know if you need to pop into the pits mid-session for a sec to make an adjustment, especially as air and track temps change a lot during the day. This is less about maximizing track time, and more about maximizing tire life. The 71R is fast, but if you overheat it, you'll kill it really quickly. Also, I've found that taking tire pressures after a session is completely useless. The pressures change several PSI from my last hot lap to by the time I do a cool down lap for the brakes, wander into the paddock, park, get out, measure & adjust each tire separately. Instead, just take a quick look at hot pressures on the idrive during your last hot laps and make a mental note on how you need to adjust each tire once you park. Much more accurate that way. Thanks so much, ZM2. The wheels are ordered.
Would you recommend 255/35/19 and 285/35/19 for the RE71R, or do you think I can go one size up (265 and 295)? Any chance you will get to Mid-Ohio this year? There are almost a dozen different PCA schools scheduled, plus the BMWCCA school in August. |
