Subwoofer under seat upgrade?

hello friends I would like to know how many ohms have the harman kardon subwoofers and what would be the best update without changing the amplifier, change the front speakers by focal es100k and the improvement is very remarkable. Thank you

i have looked at this option before, $600 for a passive fix... is a lot.
i doubt it will add as much bass as adding a powered sub in the trunk like i did.

according to bavsown the m2 you have subwoofer 2ohm, and I find them extremely expensive .... I am from europe and you have to add customs .... in my old 35i I had gladen audio subwoofers and they were similar to harman kardon m2.

You can buy the woofers without the speakers or amp for $558

They come in 2, 4 and 7 Ohm

I understand these kinds up upgrades aren't more effective than a sub in a trunk box. The selling point here is that everything is plug and play and won't take up any extra room in the car. They're drop in replacements.

No b.c It will only work in cars with the standard hifi system, won't work with cars that have HK (aka my M2)

They claim that amp works and they say it can drive 2ohms and 4 to the subs if you want to upgrade them....tempting!

Will consider it for my 3er. Not really a priority for the M since the exhaust noise is my favorite sound track in that car

Totally agree! But my car is quieter than most thanks to 2 series insulation.

So I ordered just the amp. I have many decent speakers. I will report back.
Anyone doing this should know that Canbus will not allow entertainment upgrades without the original amp in place. So if you are think there will be a software upgrade you need to put your old amp back in.....just so you know.

Gregory - The 2 Series and M2 HK systems are analog to the amp. The Canbus does not come into play like it does on the 3-series and up. I had a 340 with HK and then upgrade with a Mobridge and a lot of other toys...the update problem isn't there for this HK setup.

I honesty have not touched my stereo in this car yet. But my f56 MINI had basically the same system. So much so that I reused my Technics harness. There is a "Canbus" wire that passes through the harness. I also remember (on the MINI) there being the same wire into the HK amp. It is a basic line level HK but the wire is there. I am not sure why it would not be? It would help the computer check for faults in the audio system. Make sense?

That wire goes to the ASD module, but not all the way to the amp. If you pull the ASD module, you'll get a fault code.

I know this an older thread, but Bavsound's ghost underwear woofers by themselves sound great. I noticed quite a bit more volume and bass response with them, even without adding the amp. I eventually added Bavsound's revenant amp and stage one speaker package anyway, but just the ghost woofers sound great on their own. They also sound good with my JL audio 10" 10w3v3 sub in the trunk too

You won't get a fault code but you won't be able to update the software. This is a known issue of changing the hk amp. Even bimmertech say it is so. I've made a harness and the Canbus wire is part of the harness. All wires that run to the and come out the other side and run to the HK amp. Check the wiring diagram.

Would this also be an issue for cars with hifi? Really want to put a bavsound amp in my F30 but not if I have to remove it every time it needs a flash at the dealer

Yes. Pretty sure. This is not a problem with the plug and play amp that Bravsound sell. You just plug the old amp back in. It can be a pain in the F87 as the amp is difficult to reach without pulling the interior trim. Technic should make a harness extension so you can pull it out from under the liner. On one of my MINI's I took it in for service with the amp sitting in the back of the car but plugged into the loom. Mechanic laughed as he knew what I was doing....
