Crazy as it sounds I was thinking of taking the 911 out in the winter when it isn't too stormy and was thinking AWD just makes sense. Also will have two RWD cars and I can't think of many AWD sports cars with a manual that come close in the price range so it seems like the right opportunity. But will give it some thought.
I didnt' see "tracking it" as a need and though it doesn't have the manual or sunroof, the i8 "is" awd, has equally useless back seats to the 911 and is a blast for a daily driver GT. Plus, you can pick them up 1/2 off or better. (Or find a cheap lease to assume on swapalease) My kids will comfortably out-grow it (by size) in about a year, but are begging to keep it long-term. Though I have an M2C on order for a April/May delivery, I'm considering keeping this (or getting another newer pre-owned CPO one) as it's a quite fun daily driver when needed, and an efficiency mobile for the FL flat and straight commute days.

Don't have experience with P cars but curious to know whether you really need AWD in winter.
BMW with winter tires has never let me down.

Good question. Hills can still be a challenge but I don't have many on my usual journey's. Last Christmas there was TONS of unplowed snow on the road and for one of the very few times in my nine years of ownership of my 128i I was a bit nervous because any amount of throttle was pulling the car sideways into the snowbank so I was going extremely slow while Honda Civics were passing me at rapid speed. I'm guessing the pulling to the side is a result of the open differential + RWD? Would an LSD of some sort solve for this or is it really a FWD or AWD only solution? I do have newer Michelin Xi3 winter tires.

Other than deep snow the 6MT 128i is fantastically balanced and confidence inspiring even if at times a slower pace is necessary. Haven't touched the suspension (including alignment) in nine years and 123,000 miles and it feels confident to drive.

Reality is there aren't a lot of GOOD AWD sports cars out there and I have a rear Z4M so I was thinking of adding a unique AWD car to the stable. Can't NOT have an improvement of some kind in winter, right?

Having those two small seats in the 911 allows for the front seats to recline back and for more leg room up front. At 6’2” you can completely stretch out your legs and recline front seats like flying business class to take a nap or sleep if you are in passenger side on long drives. The Carrera 4s platform is a sports act platform not shared by May other models (unlike 2 series BMW). The Carrera 4S is also not as bouncy as the M2 is. 2011 or 2012 from last generation Porsche should also hold value better (NA) engines.

Got a call from the dealership today, they wanted to make a deal on a M2 with my 128i as a trade in. No official pricing on the M2C here in Canuckland yet though :|
The problem is the info such as a factory service manual isn't readily available for Porsche as it is with BMW.

M2 is a great car. However, not even close to a 4S.

Decision made

After carefully considering everyone's comments, feedback and consuming every video on YouTube available for either car I sat down, did some soul searching and made a decision on what I wanted.

Allow me to introduce the newest member of my stable:

2015 Carrera 4S (991.1) w/ 12,500 miles on it

7MT
Sport suspension w/ PASM
Sport Chrono
Glass sunroof
14-way standard seats w/ memory package
BOSE stereo

It was the only car I could find that had the EXACT options that I wanted so I had no choice but to move on it quickly. I way overshot my budget but I don't care. Everyone who commented on how good the 911 is is right; magazine numbers, youtube videos, etc don't even begin to describe how amazing this grip machine is. I've never been so deeply in love with a car before in my life. Its quiet and comfortable when you want to be and the sound it makes when its time to get down to business is incredible. The gearbox and clutch are perfect. And it stays planted and pulls like a train even way above legal speed limits and never breaks a sweat. It has so much grip, poise and traction that inclement weather of any kind means nothing to it. I will never sell this car.

Other good news is I've decided to keep the 128i for flying under the radar, Home Depot runs, four adult passenger carrying and for situations when I need to bring a ladder.

Thank you everyone for helping me see the light as to what was missing in my life.

That's the best part...it's not. Makes the sweetest noise I've ever heard. May be the last generation 911 Carrera for a while (or ever) to have an NA engine. Which completes my Last of the Mohicans NA non-V six cylinders w/ manual transmission collection:

128i 6MT N52 - last mass production BMW non-M inline 6 NA engine
Z4M Roadster 6MT S54 - last ///M inline 6 NA engine
991.1 Carrera 4S 7MT 9A1 - last top trim Carrera flat 6 NA engine

Love my stable.
