Narrower is better for snow/ice grip in the winter.

Because of the looks? That’s my best answer. I don’t plan to drive the car in the snow/ice. Really just looking for a setup appropriate for cold non-snowy days during the winter.

A few shots of my recent 513m's on BSM that I purchased from a local f80 owner as I've only seen them on white and mineral grey. MPSS for now as I don't drive the m2 in the winter, but rather have the car sit on these than the 666m. Will replace with some semi-slicks once the MPSS needs to be replaced.

Definitely a softer ride on stock suspension with 255/275 tires with a 40 sidewall, noticeable immediately from swapping with my 666m set on 265/285 with a 30 sidewall. The 437m's, as you can probably imagine, are somewhere in between.

I would also imagine that the larger the sidewall, the more forgiving the car will be on the limits in turns and sudden direction changes. More "squirm" should equate to much less chance of sliding out immediately and without notice, as the tire should let loose more gradually rather than suddenly. Absolute limits in turns might be slightly lower (speed). However, I know nothing.

Peter. Trying to follow your thoughts. So you thought that the 40mm PSS did not handle as well as the original 35mm tires on the 19" rims? Sounded like the car did not handle well on the above setup. Is that correct?
Thanks Mate! |

Ended up buying a set with PSS 255/275 F/R $2300 off EBay. They are takeoffs with 100 miles on the tires.
I just can's stand the idea of curbing the OEM wheels and not being able to repair them myself. At least with these I can repair/respray and clear if they get some marks ...and they will! |

Bought a set of take offs with PSS. Less than 100km for $2500. Pretty happy.
