exhaust swap without a lift
Anyone swap exhaust's themselves without using a lift? Trying to figure out how much of a pain in the ass it will be to just lift my car up a foot or 2 with blocks and swap exhaust's myself. Downpipe is getting swapped also.

I did mine without a lift. I created some blocks from 2X4 and got the car up 1.5 Feet off the ground. It's not so bad. I think all in all it took me 4 hrs from start to finish to jack up, remove stock exhaust, install new exhaust and put car back on the ground by myself. Just make sure that the car is level when on the blocks. I had Jack stands by the jack points for extra safety.

Great, thanks. I figured it wouldn't be too bad. I planned on using blocks and jacks stands also. Did you need any abnormal wrench extensions or anything? I have a decent stock of tools but i know there are some weird areas sometimes that you need to get to.

Its a lot easier with a lift, thats for sure, but can be done without one.
My suggestion would be to see if you have a DIY garage near you. We have a place right down the street that rents out bays with lifts (and various tools if you need them) for around $25/hr. Well worth it in my opinion. |

No. Standard extensions and wrenches work fine. Didn’t need anything special

I'm sure you can but man is it going to be a pain in the A$$. There is probably some place near you where you can rent a lift for 15 bucks an hour and that will be money well spent IMO.

Can you guys point me in the right direction for what seals i'll need and where i can get them? I found a buddy with a lift so it should be a lot easier.

I helped a friend install an exhaust on his M2 two weekends ago on jack stands. We had plenty of space and it only took a couple hours.
There was an e-torx bolt somewhere up front. I think it was for the front hanger just aft of the downpipe. You could probably cheat and remove it with a regular 12pt socket if you don’t have the e-torx sockets. Or it’s an excuse to buy a new tool. Everything else was standard hardware and pretty accessible. I wouldn’t say a lift would make the job that much easier. |

Agree. I've put cars up on 4 jack stands but prefer to put the first side up on ramps then lift the other side up and put the jack stands under. Less butt puckering that way.

For the rear, the jack goes on the rear subframe brace to carefully lift the entire rear. I am super mindful that the jack does not "walk". Then 2 stands on the rear corners. Lower in reverse order. |
