M2 Competition Cluster scratched?
Hi guys,
I was cleaning the car today and just noticed the cluster was scratched. In an attempt to clean it up some i added some more minor scratches Has anyone done any attempts to get it replaced at the dealer? It's crazy how soft this plastic is.

They should put a caution notice near the LCI instrument cluster as it can't be physically touched by anything ever or it will scratch. Only way to clean is via those electronic duster cans.
It doesn't hurt to take it to the dealer and try. |

I'm extremely careful and knew this going in. Of course I sneezed one day which necessitated the cleaning of the cluster. Even with the lightest of touch, highest quality microfiber/suede and a ton of cleaning lubrication, there were still minor scratches. Impressive that BMW was able to manufacturer and engineer something so fragile.

Same here, annoys the tits out of me, but I don't want to touch it more.
On delivery it was already horrific. Made it a bit better, but still have dirt on it I cannot remove. MR |

- have to fear oil cooler damage
- have to fear leaking charge cooler - have to fear spun crank hub - cannot touch cluster... BMW why, oh why....?

Quick hack to get it clean, get one of those plastic stickers they use to clear cell phone screens. gently apply it to the various parts of the display to pickup small bits of dust after you've blown the bulk of it off with compressed air.

One of those stickers actually works pretty well. Gets all the fine particles off. |

Slightly off topic. Anyone try using a plastic polish like Griot's Garage 11186 Plastic Polish to "remove" the scratches from the cluster?

Sorry for double posting. Found a few threads outside of the M2 subforum and many suggest trying Novus #2 and #1. Will give that a shot when it arrives
