Ignition coils
I have about 43k miles on my car but haven't replaced my ignition coils yet. I've read somewhere with tuned car would need to change sooner at 30k miles.
My car hasn't been sounding right and I'm think ing maybe it could be the coils. I've been chasing this issue for awhile and recently fixed my resonator crack which felt like it muffled the sound more. Would need to go back for follow up. I'm running bm3 stage 2. I also have the colder spark plugs. Does anyone have recommendations for what coils I should get? here is link to my sound issue. https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1784220 |

Eldor’s are the new BMW spec, vs Delphi. These have been running strong for me: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...or-12138657273

My issue was actually due to gapping my plugs too tight at 0.020”. However, the Eldor’s were strong enough to make the misfires almost go away completely and were doing much better than the stock Delphi’s which had tons of misfires with that gap. Opened gap to 0.026” afterwards and no misfires since with the Eldor’s and 442whp. |

No, wait for the b58 coil kits for the n55. That's a way better coil, more spark energy and less strain on the modules inside the ecu responsible for the coils.

At the same dwell of 3.0 ms almost double, at higher dwells a little less. But you don't want too much dwell as IGBT temps will get really high which is not good. Honestly though, if you don't have to gap down your plugs to an unreasonable level I'm not sure these are worth it.

And when it comes to plugs & coils, you've taught me if it isn't broke don't fix it! But, was just curious since it's also an Eldor coil that only costs ~$30. |

I think they are supposed to test an Eldor s55 coil soon, but we will see if they do I suppose. Yeah if it isn't broke don't mess around too much because it can cause more issues than it solves, most people that want these ignition kits are n54 guys deep into the 600whp range and have to gap down to a ridiculous amount. For us track guys I think we should be fine with the stock coils, look at the m4 gts another 100 whp over us and same delphi plugs + same bosch plugs and gaps.

I noticed the precision racework coils says aftermarket intake highly recommended and I only have the drop in afe pro dry filter. I'm gonna just get the eldors and hopefully that solves my sound burble issue which is lacking potency.

I think that is for the E series n55 which has the oem intake covering where the coils would sit.

If you're misfiring or have to gap your plugs down extremely tight then you should look at getting coils. St that point yes these b58 coils will be a suitable bolt on upgrade with the bracket from nexyus.

I did about 600whp on E76 with the NGK 97506 plugs gapped at .025''. Had misfires beyond that power level at that gap size. I could gap down on the same plugs, but I'm going to give the NGK SILZKBR8F8S plugs a shot. They're BMW's OE flex fuel plug and supposedly outperform the 97506s when holding gap sizes constant, meaning you can run a larger gap on the flex fuel plugs vs. a smaller gap on the 97506s. Nonetheless, I am keeping an eye out on this conversion kit and plan on running it when it's available for purchase.
