Either or, yes we can tune for it.

What are your thoughts on the difference in gains of the hard parts with and without a custom tune?

No tune = 0 gains, other than more efficient airflow up too so less boost needed to maintain the same power level.

With tune could be anywhere from 10whp-30whp or more. Depending on Where the choke line is.

Ok more thing in regards to the MILVS, I think the question was if tuning was required yes or no - not if there was any more tuning that could be done on top of the MILVS to get more gains.

Next I'm pretty sure the MILVS really maximizes the valve lift and duration but doesn't cause contact issues, it likely brings it closer than stock but to a safe limit.

IIRC the testing data I saw was from an s55 with the same tune before and after so likely no tune is required for the MILVS. I've also seen it on alot of engines without issue of valve contact.

That is not correct, you need a tune to have any gains. The DME is actually using the current parameters on the for whatever tune model you have. You have to change it to gain anything, and you actually might lose power without the tune.

I’ve had them on my N/A car, and Bob at Stage FP (former BPC) made the original tune for them.

My mistake then, I wasn't sure if there was a tune or not and I thought I remembered the dyno graphs and the threads around them saying on the same tune. But I must be misinformed then.

This is from cobra Marty: "The increased and maximum intake valve lift occurs at near BDC and will not have any piston to valve clearance issues.

Increased exhaust valve lift which occurs near TDC could have piston to valve clearance issues."

My m235i friend reading this thread emailed him.

Cool. This sums up nicely with my mental math of the cam timing curves on n55/s55.

Really want to see on a M2 before and after on dyno if someone is game.

Paul and Cary have done countless of these and they’re both truly standup guys and get both my thumbs up! Halim or HCP is who maintains all OTS maps so the most experience by far of anyone is with him but I don’t believe he offers custom as he’s way too busy. I know he provides support to all serious bm3 custom tuners with anything needed so really anyone you go with will probably get you solid results at the end of the day. Those well experienced almost always take way less time to make a tune, provided no mechanical gremlins, than others learning the ropes.

Just make sure you get your logs looked at by a third party just in case, CJ has been known to make some poor tunes in the m2 community. ZM2 had it pretty bad with CJ along with a few others.

In the ThicF30 YT video the Cary tune was crazy PSI and in the end he wasn't happy to run it. Comms were lacklustre also.

cookiesowns (Bend) seems to be the most responsive custom tuner around for N55 guys.
I know this is an old post, but no. Halim sucks. He told me the stage 2+ e30 log I sent him looked good. Then boom. Cyl 1 and 5 said bye bye. So no. Avoid Halim at all costs.

I even replied to the email where he said all looked good and he ignored it.
