Wanted to bump this- happen to have the diameter of pipes you used when replacing the OEM pieces? Or if you have the OE measurements.

The way Yellowflash21 did his muffler mod basically turns it into the Fabspeed muffler bypass. That might be a bit aggressive for me, so I think I'll just block off the middle chamber and see how it goes.

I might do what you're planning too.

I will, but a bit more research is in order. I don't want to lose the deep tone of the stock exhaust, so I need to figure out what each section actually does. I know the F80 guys completely block off the perforated section, so that might be the way to go instead of blocking off the middle section, which might be giving us the depth.

Just called my exhaust guy, he can do it for under $300, which isn't so bad. He said that he had done one other BMW (not an M2) that way (probably an E92), and the guy didn't end up liking the sound and bought another stock exhaust. He had straight-piped the perforation section.
Since I don't know which section of the muffler is producing which sound, I think I'll skip this mod. More than volume I want control over the pops and crackles, and that's better handled with the tune. |
