All right, b2k, I'm not one to really sing the praises of the DCT because I do wish I had bought a manual at times, but:

Like almost EVERYTHING with a car, you can't get the full picture of the M-DCT with a drive or two. Once you've lived with it, and using it just right has become instinctual, then it's something that can be evaluated. Driving hard, in manual mode, in setting 3, it is a very different experience than the ZF8 is, or any manual or automatic that I've ever driven. Every molecule of the car ends up feeling totally in synch. It's a weird thing, really, and it wasn't something I got to in the first few months of owning the car.

I still pine for a manual often. I do really miss it, but not for when I'm driving at or above 7/10ths...I want the manual for when I'm driving SLOW...to add back in fun when I'm not pushing it. This car, at full tilt, is SO well served by the DCT that I never want it to be a manual at that point.

So, not as simple as people make it out to be. In a lot of ways, I need two M2C's.

its called buyers remorse, have you seen any MT owners regret their decision or try to prove how great MT is over DCT, never , I dont get it why there are several threads depicting how great DCT is
😀😀

Killed my comment. There's no point. I'll just leave this instead: If you don't get it and don't want to, stop asking. Continuing to is just trolling.

Get whatever makes you happy. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

I prefer manual. If you prefer the DCT, great.

Everyone knows that auto is technically superior when it comes to speed.

In reality are any of us in a position to exploit that (racing)? Probably not. But I understand the desire to have the fastest possible options.

I also get that some people just don't enjoy rowing gears.

Go drive and enjoy your cars, guys and gals.

Edit: I will add that a manual definitely takes more skill to drive well which is why I like manuals... and may be why some auto drivers get defensive.

Does every long-term thread inevitably turn into a MT vs. DCT thread?

Both are fantastic and have specific use cases that enhance either transmission of choice. No one is better than the other. Period. Transmission equality for all!

Before we give chase back down the MT versus DCT rabbit hole, thought I would try to throw the dogs off the scent . . .

Walking out of gas station this evening with a winning PowerBall lottery ticket and saw the beast sitting there in the artificial light. Snapped a pic to capture the moment, including fact that the beast actually got a rare bath today . . . I like to pat myself on the ass when I take the time to perform the rare bathing ritual.

Regarding that winning lottery ticket . . . I fucking need to win the lottery to keep feeding the beast its petrol demands.

Not asking and yes I get it DCT transmission wants to be compared to a manual but not the case, end of the day its an automatic car, hope u get that

Finally any car without the 3rd pedal is automatic and I am not saying good or bad but stop comparing to a manual , its lot different and boring

Getting away from MT vs DCT topic I noticed that the oil temp is lower in sports plus mode, is it due to extra cooling ? it used to work same way in my F80 M3s

BTW, what is this all about?

Got this warning for the first time while granny-cruising at 60 mph in 6th on the freeway the other day. There was no "dangerous traffic situation" of any sort that I could identify in the slightest. Only a few cars around too. Pulled my phone out just in time to snap a photo.

A few days before that, the car mysteriously applied the brakes on its own while cruising on the freeway. The closest car in front was probably some 500 feet away, cruising at the same speed. Granted, the system applied the brakes subtly, but I still don't get why. I was not accelerating rapidly or anything.

WTF is going on here? - Is this part of the collision warning system? - If so, it works half ass. Should I just turn it the ***k off and forget it's there?

Car is a bone stock MY21 with 6MT.

That's very normal, chances are there was road works of some sort ahead and the connected drive traffic prompted you.

Happens to me often too when I go for night drives, it just lets you know there's something ahead.

It must be related to the navigation just warning you of just dangerous situation ahead and i have seen this message before in in built car navigations

I am curious if these 'false' warnings are tied to the BMW system?

Namely, I have not seen this before . . . but I have always had Apple CarPlay activated.

Maybe not? Just a thought.

Having CarPlay "activated" does not mean you have "deactivated" any part of the OEM infotainment. The only restriction that I can think of is that you cannot have both OEM navigation and a carplay app's navigation giving you directions at the same time.

Is there a way to disable this?

There was nothing up ahead that justified this warning. Literally nothing. No roadwork, no accidents, nothing. It took a few miles for the warning to disappear. I drove another 15 miles until I got off the highway. It's annoying because it freaked me out for no reason at all.
