Stock S55? No, it always ran fine till redline for me. Plenty of dynos show it keeps making power till redline, not tapering off. Example is below:

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1584436

N55 definitely had the feeling for me on my previous N55 powered cars.

They neutered the peak power vs m3/4.
You can see it in any Dyno graph.

thanks. tough to describe other than... I don't want to take it to redline. shifting at just over 6K it feels.. quicker.

I believe its actually between 5-5.5k rpm. There were multiple dyno charts when the M2C was released and they all showed the power capped a bit after 5k. BMW didnt want M2C breaking big brothers legs (M3/M4).

Thats why you do a simple tune on the M2C and it releases a chunk of power and the acceleration is linear until redline.

Your butt dyno is correct, I shift at just over 6k when I’m having fun because there is absolutely nothing left higher then that .

Yes, it does seem to taper off before RL. I've done multiple track days and have to focus on not running it to the limiter. It's not a huge drop off but after 6500 or so you're just messing around if you don't go ahead and shift.
