Latest BAT Sale not so hot?

Anyone CK this Auction out?

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2020-bmw-m2-cs-14/

Around $90K with Fees

Thought it would have gone a little higher? Guess these are really falling back to earth?

Thoughts? What am I missing with this car or is this just the state of the economy ect?

Inflation is hitting everything but our cars. It’s tough to say. The initial hype was big and it is calming down. Perhaps cars like the z06 and the new m2 are taking the attention of potential buyers.

M2 CS values were boosted by a perfect storm of tremendous praise from automotive journalists, low interest rates, and limited supply (of CSs and cars generally). Add to this there was no new M2 available as an option. Now rates are rising, hype is levelling out (as it always does) and supply constraints are easing (slowly). Plus the new M2 is inbound.

It seems unavoidable that M2 CS prices would come down in the short to medium term. Long term, I think the CS will hold and regain its value but short to medium term prices may continue to soften. Just my 2 cents, we live in unprecedented times economically speaking, hard to predict what’s coming.

Considering the car is now three years old, selling for more than MSRP is a pretty good result in my opinion

Agree, I was going to make that observation on one of the other threads about resale. A little bit of context here… nearly 3 years on and still selling for more than the original list price is pretty darn good by any measure. Considering inflation and cost increases in the mean time I don’t see it dropping much either…

I see a new listing in Oz (only one for sale) is approx +20% on list price when new.

2 year old BMW selling for more than MSRP?!

That's a win. The days are gone where people are paying $48,000 for a $13,000 watch.

Cherish those days if you sold something back then.

Me personally. I bought a 2020 Toyota 86 new for $24,500. Drove it for 2 years and traded it in for $27,000. On the flip side, I traded it in for a GT3 Touring and paid a lot more back then than I would now.

I got over values a while ago when I started looking at cars as an experience and not a $ value. Yes money matters but not as much as the experience. My touring now has 26,000 miles and I hope I get up to 100k miles. My M2 CS I now have $130k plus in it. Couldn't care less. But the experiences? YES I'll take those.

VIR, Road trips to Pinehurst for golf with my boy, Daytona International Speedway back in December. Those pics, that experience with family / friends...that's what it's all about.

See you on the road or at the track !

It was also purchased for more than MSRP, and is now used.

100k and up for these cars was always crazy and I’m one of the biggest F8X fans around. This was all just a matter of time.

Canadian market cars are under 80k USD

To state the obvious the CS is absolutely the F87 to have though despite the way it sounds. If I’m lucky enough to make the move I’ll just have to throw an equal length midpipe and some Recaros at it and deal with it.

Stripper models will always have a better outcome to equal or slightly higher than their original msrp. Other CS' that are near the ceiling of their options might struggle. I know I wouldn't get close to my msrp even if I replaced the CCB's (which I do have a set laying in waiting) but also with 22k miles, lol, I'd probably get something in the 80s if I'm lucky.

Here in Canada the CS market has already hit reality.

Any more reality and I'll swap my M2C for CS...

I haven't seen any comments about the condition of the car itself, not to mention the fact it is a private seller. Judging by the imperfections mentioned in the ad, I wonder if the car had been tracked (not that there is anything wrong with that, just another thing that could affect the price). I don't recall it mentioning anything about PPF. Also, don't the buyers have to pay around $5,000 to BaT, and arrange transportation, which is another $2,000 for covered transport? Buyer is into it for over $90K. Considering market conditions, interest rates, etc, I'd say the car held its value well. Just some observations...

My friend owned that car. It was babied and garaged with his E30 M3's and other cars.

You were beyond lucky. The dealers wanted a minimum of $2K over MSRP even for my '18.

I bought it used because I refuse to even pay MSRP, let alone over MSRP.

That's great. Sounds like he has quite the car collection! Nonetheless, the rock chips and etc will affect the price, at least slightly. But sounds like he and buyer got a great deal and I hope they are both happy with the result. Still wondering why it had no PPF, but that's neither here nor there.

For me, it's refreshing to see dollar values normalizing for cars. The writing was on the wall when the Honda/Toyota salesmen were telling me that the civic and Rav4 were appreciating assets.

I'm fully expecting the CS to follow a shallow depreciation curve and eventually level out. My goal was always to drive it and enjoy it until I have to sell it.

Here's one in Canada going for about $75kUSD with 20k miles on it.

About $14kUSD under lower mile specimens.

I can't see them falling below that IMHO...

It is interesting, I wonder if the original buyers came to realize it was simply too much car for their needs...
