If it were bad enough for the dealer to offer you a refund, you should take it. You literally never got a chance to enjoy the car, just walk away. If you keep it you will constantly be worried that this issue pops up again and never be happy.

Unhappy FINAL UPDATE....deal killed

Well, they called this morning and said all was good and that they wanted to run a few more diagnostics and then I could pick up the car this afternoon. By 3pm, I had not heard from them. This was concerning. They called at 3:30 after I pinged them and they said, car popped a CEL again and they still cannot deliver.

So, I told them I was out. Refund coming. Car has been there a week and they still can't find a fix. Might be a minor gremlin that can be worked out easily, but I have certainly lost confidence and this would likely bother me for many years to come.

Dealership had already ordered an exact build as mine, and its about 45 days out from delivery. They are giving me a few days to decide if I want it. Will probably take it; but in the interim I am going to go test drive an RS3, C63 coupe and a 2016/2017 911. If, after these drives, I am still smitten by the pull of the M2C - I guess I'll give them the green light and go back to the waiting game.

I am angry? No. Disappointed. Yes.

This is a crappy ending.. But it's a route I would ultimately take, as I would hate to roll the dice on an iffy vehicle and have any potential blowbacks in the future, forcing my car to be in and out the shop for months.. F that..

However, I wouldn't be too disappointed, it's a blessing in disguise the issue popped up now, so the ball is in your court..

This vehicle just sounds like a dud or is exhibiting a wiring issue but it's not an accurate reflection on the overall model's quality.

Absolutely the right choice. At least the dealer/BMW was pretty reasonable about letting you bail.

Good luck with the next one.

That sucks, sorry you had to go through that. I had some similar weird issues with my 135i when I got it (bad seal somewhere buried in the evaporative fuel recovery system which kept throwing codes and took a couple weeks to diagnose... as the code implied the gas cap was loose). Ultimately I kept the car, but I totally understand the disappointment. My M2C has been great thus far (about 9 months and 2500 miles), but the complexity and potential failure modes is always in the back of my mind.

Since it’s a new car with 8 miles or so. Unfortunately this car needs to be driven for few days, weeks, or even a month. Yeah they can do OBD2 diagnostics checks all they want parked. But since the vehicle is so new it needs to be driven to determine the cause for the fault.

Sorry to hear and glad that a replacement is on the way (if you want it, of course). I've been driving BMWs since 1999, and this is one of the best...

That really sucks, but count your blessings though. If you had made it home and been able to drive the car for a while, then you might have a lot harder time getting a refund.

The Mercedes and Audi are going to blow the M2C away as far as comfort and gadgets IMO.

Good decision. Shop around, but I hope you let them order you a new M2. The balance of these cars is fantastic. No other car comes close dynamically. Good luck and I really think you decided wisely.

Talking NEW UPDATE

Well, there appears to be a happy ending to the saga. Very long story short, dealer plead with BMWNA to get an allocation for an exact mirror image car that had just arrived at the Port. Even though the car was allocated to another dealer, I guess BMWNA intervened, and well, the car is mine. Port installed parts work order commenced today and there is a very real possibility of delivery net week or before the Labor Day weekend.

If all works out as planned, I will be getting the exact same car I ordered....hopefully minus the three consecutive CEL's without leaving the dealership. Keeping fingers crossed that the re-re-re-re-delivery experience goes smooth. At least the waiting part is getting easier as I have become rather accustomed to it!

This is how a dealership should be. It wasn’t their direct fault about the car but they addressed it the best they could to service their customer.

Do i have anything to worry about?
Shoot, you mean to tell me no one told you the oxygen sensor fails every 1-100 miles?! Yeah it's slightly inconvenient, but that's the price you pay for a sweet car!

Glad you got a new car just for piece of mind.

So I got the car back the next day before they close for the day.

Guess what, the light came on again, right after I exit the parking lot. Since their service dept are closed, they couldn't take another look at it right away. Had to book another appointment for it, and the earliest was 4 days later. I drove the car for the 4 days, and on the morning of the appointment, right before I head for the dealership, the light magically disappeared. It's been a week now, and it didn't came on again.

Wish yours would just go away in a few days.
I've had the same story. the light magically disappeared. Couldn't find the problem , then updated car. i had cylinder 1 failure. Did you solve the problem afterwards?

Late November 2021 CEL appeared - Less than 8500 miles and my new M2C and it popped a check engine light. Dealer diagnosed as a bad O2 pre-cat Sensor. Dealer requested part and 5 weeks later the part has still not arrived.

The worst part is the distro center has the part, its been pulled and prepped for shipping but they haven't gotten around to putting it in the mail. Ridiculous! I even offered to stop by the distro center to pick up the part, but BMW wouldn't allow that since the distro center isn't set up to deal with the general public. The service mngr said it could be another month or more before the part arrives. WTF BMW...This is complete BS.

Although I am working the BMW customer service...They are going to extend my warrantee for the # of days the car's been off the road and cover my payment for Dec and maybe Jan depending on how long this craziness lasts.

Very common. My M2C did this at 300 miles.

I wouldn't advise this in most other situations but an o2 cel can just straight up be ignored. Using a veepeak obd2 diag tool and an app like torque pro can clear it for you with minimal effort.

Glad they are fixing it for you either way. But it's no concern. just irritating.

Just wait until 2,700 miles and a rod bearing takes a dump and you need a new engine! Welcome to the wonderful world of M2 ownership!
