Hah, I know what that first part is like! Glad you are up and running!

I totally understand how it is at that power level. Not a great recipe with the original tires.

That's a heavy mod list! What (nice and big) goals do you have with those? The S55 can easily reach 600hp at engine without major surgery.

Hi, we are going to go for 650/700 BHP and 750/800 NM at the flywheel. If thats too mental we will down tune it. Having been in my tuners S55 M3 running this power it is awesome and addictive! I think maybe some larger rear tyres would help, probably 295 Michelins MPS4S. We didnt realise the amount of work this would take to get here. You were right about modules with different VIN numbers, the car wasn't having any of it! However with some specialist help from a local coding guru we convinced the car that all was well. BMW dont make it easy, we even had gearbox ECU problems as initially the car would start but refuse to go into gear!! We got round it though...eventually. I will update you once I have the car back and thank you for your interest, great fun

I think I'm pretty much coming to this same conclusion.

Any posts/threads here of M2C, locked-everything owners, running JB4 and their results/likes/dislikes?

Having had a JB4 on two N54 FBO cars, it worked fine for me. I think a conservative map would feel fine. I would love to reverse BMW's intentional flat power "curve" from 5200 to almost redline with a proper tune, however it a JB4 (or equivalent) might ultimately be the only option. I would love 450-475whp in this car, that would be all I would ever want.

JB4 on Map 2 while running e30 will get you near 500 wheel.

Update from here in the UK. My tuner informs me the platform he uses for his tuning software has at last cracked the encryption on the latest Bosch encrypted DME! It has not been released yet but will be shortly apparently so keep an eye out on the tuning platforms. He did tell me the name but I cant remember it, sorry guys. It comes just after I spent a load of money to work round this using a donor DME etc. Damn! I'm sure this news will be in the public domain soon. Happy days for you guys waiting to tune your later model cars.

Here is where we may want to ask specifically about which dme type. There are tiny small hints of progress for Bosch MG1, but we have Bosch MEVD17.2.G

Now that is more promising.
BM3 was probably used to tune after unlocking, but who is the supplier of the unlock?

Slightly OT, but I wonder what the value of such an unlock is? I guess the number of cars this covers is small. Given the design date of this PCBA and the age of the parts, I think there is definitely attack surface left.

The value is massive as this affects later models of Mercedes, Toyota, BMW, Audi etc

Having a spare DME is not a bad thing at ALL. Not to worry

This is still separate of the MG1 ecu (for now), which is a bit different. But yes, there is high value.
I'll be getting my hands on one of these tools soon

Well, sounds like it's been done, fortunately. Had I got my car sooner and been less busy I thought about attempting it... but I'd had to have bought tools and learned all the vendor specific stuff first. I work in medical and we are always exploring vulnerabilities that may exist in our devices. There is some really nice work being done on hardware level attacks:

Nice! I work in medical as well. With little humans.

However, I really think the latest news happened because someone paid another someone for insider data.
