What are you guys/gals using for winter wheels/tires?

Even though my M2 will not be a winter car, I want to ability to take it out when the temps are below 45º safely. I built an 18" winter wheel/tire package on tire rack for $1500.00 which I think isn't too bad. Are there any other options? What other 18" wheels will fit and what offsets would I need if I went looking for other used BMW wheels?

TIA.

I have the same question the recommended 18" option from tire rack seems pretty good.

I really don't like the OEM 640M wheels that BMW offers. They have a painted silver finish that looks really cheap IMHO. The OEM set up also comes with Michelin Alpin tires, which are useless in more than a sprinkling of snow. I'm going with a square 18" set up using a BBS F1 knockoff and Continental WinterContact Si tires (have heard excellent things about them from my trusted tire guy).

These are inexpensive and very light (flow form) - https://www.1010tires.com/Wheels/720...d/Matte+Black/

18x9 ET30 square is pretty much OEM fit and 245/40/18 choices are pretty wide. I went with Blizzak WS80 as they seem to be a good fit for the slushy snow we get here.

I really don't see a point of running all season tires on the M2. If you run the AS all year you are making terrible compromise in all conditions. If you have a dedicated winter set why not go for actual winter tires?

I can see using the AS somewhere like Vancouver where snow is very rare, although a lot of summer performance gets sacrificed. Here in Toronto after a decent snowfall even the Alpins don't give me enough traction on a torquey RWD car like the M2.

I love the Pilot Alpin PA4. Not useless at all for me in Calgary after a record snow winter last year.

Hey, if Alpins work for your needs that's all that matters. I just prefer something more snow/ice oriented.

Yes, both will fit ok but as most replicas they are quite heavy.

Cool thanks but I am concerned with front clearance since OEM has ET29 offset vs Replica ET35

The new wheels are 8.5 so about 6mm narrower on the inside so that will make the inside fit pretty much the same as stock. On the outside it will be deeper into the fender so it won't look as good.

Look at my earlier post in this thread where I linked the 720form wheels. They are about $300 more but 9" ET30.

Yes, I'm running square setup, same front and rear. Winter setup is nice to rotate front to back seasonally. For some unknown reason the rears somehow wear more???

Remind me: When did it last snow in SW London?

Obvs. The amount of salt that gets thrown on the roads will dissolve wheels that aren't powder coated, but...
