You clearly have no idea what has been going on. Take some time and actually read through this thread.

The M2 coming is NOT a CS or has anything to do with a CS model.

The M2 Competition is the current base M2 with a detuned S55 and new options. You will still be able to get a cheaper M2 with dakota leather, standard 437M wheels, etc.

It has also has been gone over many times in this thread as well. Almost broken record.

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...228342&page=72

Really everyone needs to drop calling it a M2 CS, because it isn't anywhere near that. Look at the decoded VIN numbers, standard equipment vs options. It gives you a clear indication of what BMW's intentions are with the EOP of N55 M2 and introduction of detuned S55 M2.

The VIN numbers clearly show the Competition is the same M2 available now, but with a detuned S55. Yes there are new wheels, seats, brakes, perforated leather, etc...but everything is an option.

Essentially you can spec the car just like it is now, down to the current standard 437M wheels, cheaper Dakota leather, non-M seats. So if you want a M2 like the ones currently sitting on AutoTrader, but with a detuned S55...it will be available. BMW will just be giving customers new options and it is up to the customer on whether they value them. At most the msrp will go up $5-6k, no more than $60k msrp. The M2 will remain the entry level M car, the new Competiton still has cost cutting like the N55 M2.

How much are we expecting the competition to be?

Yeah I do not understand why people still think there will be a M2 CS. No M2 CS is actually a good thing for a pure enthusiast. Who wants an M2 with a DCT only option anyway?!

Bring on the M2 6MT compeition!

Looking at their current structure I believe it will be around $60k MSRP, and as i said I'd put money on under $70k.

Part of the reason for this is it doesn't sound like a limited model (ie. CS, CSL, GTS). It sounds more like it will be an "F87.3" (M2 -> M2 LCI -> M2 Competition) type of deal. If it was a CS I'd agree with your $70k+ MSRP, but then it'd come with a lot more performance features standard rather than optional.

As BlackJetE90 mentioned, the option sheet indicates that it's mostly the current M2 (which is missing a lot of feature that the M3/M4 has) with an S55 engine - with upgrades available to the brakes, seats, etc. I do think if you add those optional upgrades it could be $70k.

Super affordable now that dealers are willing to make a deal on new M2s to get rid of them.

Based on the cars they have built already it does seem like BMW wants to keep costs down and make money on the options.

I am guessing they want the articles about the new M2 to read "great car for less than 60k!"

So probably just under 60k for no options M2 Comp

I love how this forum speaks as if a bunch of people making the same guess over and over somehow makes it fact.

Ok, how about this. Back up your comment below with tangible evidence.

What will make up the “hefty price tag jump”? What knew features besides a detuned S55, will help push a $15k-20k jump like the M3 CS?

Let’s here it.

The “people making the same guess over and over” are actually using factual evidence(VIN’s) to come to their conclusion.

Exactly.

Some of the individuals saying a $70k+ msrp should back up their claims with some info. What is coming on the M2 Comp standard that will justify a price like that?

Think logically what you are saying. A M2 Competition with detuned S55, no adaptive suspension, no individual modes or M button, no CFRP roof, no CFRP trunk, no Merino leather, no M seats, etc...will cost more than a M4?

Been saying this multiple times on this forum and some people just can't accept it, mostly because this forum has plenty of N55 M2 owners who don't want it to be true. No way the competition will be priced above the M3($65,500) or M4($67,700), just like no cayman variant exceeds the price of a base 911.

Calling it at $61,400 base msrp...

Now what they sell for will be an entirely different story. I'm sure the dealers will be fetching market adjustments of $10-20K easily so it is important to get on a dealer list with MSRP in writing and where they won't bump you for those who pay more.

+1 Almost completely agree. Although I could see a scenario where if the M2 CSL comes to fruition, having an MSRP $80K +/- $5k or so.

If we're playing Price is Right, $59,800 MSRP for the M2 Competition Bob!

Exactly. It's funny, I had the exact same conversation with another guy in the other thread.

I can't think of any other car that has gone up in price a ton instantly, from one platform to the next, and definitely not within a life cycle refresh.

That's like saying when the 3 series went from a 325i in the E46 to a 328i in the E90, which were two completely different engines and the latter, much more powerful at 231 HP vs 184 HP for the old one, the MSRP of the base model jumped a whole lot, Which it didn't.

Good point about dropping the M2CS naming. Maybe this thread title isn't helping, can it be edited?

I would expect some US peeps have been given a closed room preview of the US Spec production M2 Competitions with known VINs during the LA show.

I believe some of these types of cars (not M2) have been snapped in transit in the past. Hopefully this may happen around now?
