Do you mean an M2 GTS?

If so, hard to say. Would need more details on this hypothetical M2 GTS before making that call. It'd take a lot for an M2 to compete directly with the GT4, and particularly a well-optioned GT4 (LWB, PCCB, etc).

If you did mean the M4 GTS, I would not cross-shop the two. The GT4 is a small, nimble, visceral sports car. The M4 in any guise... isn't.

M2 GTS should be essentially the M2 pace car - full m performance setup including exhaust and suspension

Manual gearbox -

s55 with N55B30T0 tuning for over run or N55 with Meth injection

Auto rev match user defeatable or not at all.

Wider tires all around

Roll cage and better seats ala M4 GTS

Ceramic brakes

For Europe 120k euros seems steep - it will have to be around 75-80k US because it cannot be more than GT4 and will ultimately likely not outperform it.

This article seems at odds to the one I received through my inbox yesterday notably this:

http://www.leftlanenews.com/bmw-plan...-m2-92190.html

Essentially a boosted up version of what already is in the M2 at the moment with 420 ( ish ) bhp and lighter panels with a stripped out interior

Don't even want to know what this would be worth in Australia. M4 GTS is already over $300,000.

I would consider a M2 CS or CSL or GTS at a 30% premium over the regular M2 but not more. You can almost get a 911 GT3 for 130K$. The M2 has to be a value proposition it has to do as good as Porsche for less money. Seem like I will stick with my 1M after all.

BMW seem to think they can compete with Porsche. I like their cars, but they're just not in the same league as Porsche.
As others have mentioned a GT4 or used GT3 would be higher on my list.

These cars are halo cars, they are not serious cars you to buy, they are out there to set better ring times so that BMW can say they compete with other higher performance cars. Prices don't have to be reasonable because the numbers are so low that profits are tiny or a loss even at double. Plus the limited numbers mean that even at those prices the cars will sell out. The M4 GTS got BMW a lot of attention, sold out and presumably sold a few more non GTS cars. It's about ///Marketing and making sure the brand has a harder core driver's car image than it has had recently. It's not about actually selling those specific cars.

However, I'm still thrilled that BMW would make such a car. We're in the midst of a sports car renaissance. Since the 1960's, enthusiasts haven't had so many options. BMW needs to produce cars like the M2 GTS to remain relevant, even if they can't find the business case to produce them as a normal production model.

I'm thinking "not going to happen."
Would be a fascinating car (M2 GTS?) but only a few extreme collectors would buy it.

Confusing, I thought the CSL name was being brought back as well, or is that yet another permutation in addition to the GTS?

The sum of the whole would need to be more than it's parts, meaning in several years would picking up a used "regular" M2, doing an s55 swap and corresponding brake, suspension, interior mods be cheaper than a sky high priced, too afraid to drive it M2 GTS? Used S55, lots of work done yourself, etc, obviously not buying a new crate motor.

I love the idea, but as many have said it would end up being a collector car, rather than the ultimate fun track toy it is portrayed to be.

In the US if it were priced around 90k with GTS interior, ccb, competition pack S55, etc... Ya I'd probably buy it.

Well... nothing has been decided. But my sources tell me that the "GTS" name is winning out so far - in the ///Marketing dept.

Thoughts? DAAAAAAAYUM! If the 700 m4 gts are sold out, they can make this thing as much of a beast as they want. If I had it I'd do it.

After I did some research I don t want any Porsche!

Porsche uses a new system called PTV Porsche Torque Vectoring.

It brakes you're inside wheel to get better turn in. I can not be disabled. It is also a lot harder for the brakes.

BMW M has also torque vectoring but has it in the rear diff. It not brakes any wheel it just gives more rotation to the outside wheel and that s how it should be done.

A drivers car is a drivers car and when DSC is off you're on you're own and that's how it should be!

So for now a BMW is for me more a drivers car than any Porsche at the moment!

You don't have to get PTV on a P car though - unless it is going to be standard at some point? If so, I didn't know that.

My 981 doesn't have it - my understanding is that it is mostly utilized by track junkies who tick that box. I haven't ever driven a car with it, so not sure how it affects the overall driving experience to be honest.

I do feel as though my 981 is on another planet, compared to the 235 I had for 17 months, in all aspects related to the driving experience. It's nice to have the choice.

I think you've hit the nail on the head - the lure of the M2 (and 1M before it) is definitely based on a value proposition. Hence, the lower cost associated with the introduction to the M brand. The ancillary benefit is that since the 2 is smaller than the 3/4, you get a smaller M as well. Which a lot of people like - but that's not why BMW wants you to buy it. They want to get you "hooked" on M, but wanting more. Aka, bigger and more expensive - M3/4 and up.

I am not sure how BMW would position a car like this, given the value proposition of the normal M2. Is it for track junkies? Is it for collectors? If you get north of $100K USD, I am not sure it can be anything but the latter. And that doesn't seem to fit BMW's message for the M2 to date.
